I sat quietly in the car, my phone glowing faintly in the dim light as I continued texting Soren. The parking lot outside the building was mostly empty now, the night calm and still in a way that made everything feel heavier than usual. The air felt cool, and the silence inside the car made the buzzing of my phone sound louder than it actually was.
My phone vibrated again.
I'm going to try and talk to him one more time, Soren texted.
I think it's best I do that than jump to conclusions like you said
I stared at the message for a moment before replying. I'm glad he decided to talk to him. I hope they work this out.

A few seconds passed, and then another message appeared.
And if he still doesn't reply to me or tell me it's nothing, I'm going to file for a divorce.
My chest tightened as I read the words. It didn't look like Soren was joking this time. He sounded tired… the kind of tired that came after holding something in for too long.
