Chapter 79 - The Beginning of Everything

It didn't start with panic.

It started with a pause.

The First Real Wave

Estrella stood by the window, one hand resting on her stomach, watching Rome settle into the quiet glow of evening.

Then it hit.

Not like before.

Not a warning.

A wave.

Sharp. Deep. Stealing her breath for a second too long.

She froze.

"Thomas…" she called softly.

He was beside her instantly.

"What happened?"

She inhaled slowly, trying to steady herself.

"I think… this one's real."

Another contraction came—stronger.

She grabbed his arm this time.

And that was when everything shifted.

The House Changes

The calm shattered.

Thomas moved fast—but careful.

Bag. Phone. Keys.

"Sit down—no, wait—okay, breathe—" he muttered, half to her, half to himself.

Estrella almost laughed through the tension.

"I'm the one in labor," she said, breath uneven. "Why are you panicking?"

"Because you're calm," he shot back.

Another contraction.

She didn't laugh this time.

Aaliyah Knows

Aaliyah didn't need to be told twice.

One look at Estrella's face and her entire body reacted—memory, fear, instinct all colliding at once.

"Okay," she said quickly, voice controlled but urgent. "We go now."

Her hands were steady.

Her eyes were not.

Damiano grabbed the hospital bag without a word.

No hesitation.

No questions.

Just action.

The Drive

Rome blurred past them.

Streetlights stretched into lines of gold.

Every red light felt like betrayal.

Every minute too long.

Estrella leaned back, breathing through the contractions, counting like she had been taught.

Thomas held her hand.

Too tight.

"Hey," she whispered. "You're crushing my fingers."

He loosened his grip immediately.

"Sorry."

She squeezed back.

"Don't be."

The Fear Returns

Aaliyah sat in the front seat, staring ahead—but not seeing the road.

She was somewhere else.

Another hospital.

Another moment.

Another loss.

Her chest tightened.

Not again.

She closed her eyes, forcing herself back.

This was different.

This was now.

This was her daughter.

Damiano reached over and took her hand.

Grounding her.

"You're here," he said quietly.

She nodded.

But fear didn't leave.

It just stepped back.

Arrival

Hospital lights.

Doors opening.

Voices calling.

Hands guiding.

Everything moved fast—but not chaotic.

Controlled.

Prepared.

The doctor met them with calm authority.

"How far apart are the contractions?"

"Five minutes," Estrella managed.

The doctor nodded.

"Alright. This is it."

Thomas went pale.

"This is it?"

Estrella looked at him and smiled—tired, real, a little scared.

"Yeah," she said softly. "This is it."

Closing Moment

As they wheeled her into the room, the world outside disappeared.

No cameras.

No headlines.

No noise.

Just breath.

Pain.

Hope.

Two heartbeats waiting to enter the world.

Aaliyah stood at the doorway, hand over her mouth.

Damiano beside her.

Thomas inside.

And Estrella—

Strong.

Terrified.

Ready.

The contractions came again.

Stronger this time.

And there was no stopping what had already begun.
