Chapter 101 - Silver Ring

Azel immediately tensed at her statement, he then shifted his focus to find her still staring at the kitchen door in panic. His eyes followed her cautiously.

"Indeed, Milady, someone is approaching us," he said, his eyebrows furrowing. "But it's nothing to worry about."

He waited for her response with bated breath, he had to be sure he hadn't just misheard.

Adelia's head quickly snapped toward him. "What do you mean it's nothing to worry about?!" she whispered urgently. "I can clearly hear footsteps! We need to leave."

Azel's grip on the tray lessened and his frown deepened, his eyes more shocked than Adelia had ever seen them.

She looked him over nervously, her feet poised to move. "...What? Why are you looking at me like that?"

"I discern the footsteps to be about thirty feet away from here, Milady," Azel stated, his gaze fixed on hers. "Too far for a human to 'clearly' hear, don't you think?"

Adelia flinched, realization dawning, and she bit her lip in frustration.
