I entered the warehouse and saw Layla, she was leaning against the work bench, looking at the car.
I asked, "Hey, what's up?"
"Hmm. Well, I've done what I can. Everything else is something I can't handle on my own."
"Like what?"
"The interior, it was completely trashed. Almost nothing could be salvaged. It is going to cost so much money to replace everything."
"Look, it will be ok. How about tomorrow we go to the race track?"
"Is there a race tomorrow?"
"No, I mean the private race track for us to drive on."
"Isn't that expensive?"
"It definitely isn't cheap. But I need to get more data for the other car I got."
"Oh, you got the other one today? The fast one?"
"Yeah, I spent most of the day at the track, but I still need more data and it doesn't really matter who drives. So, how do you feel about driving on a race track tomorrow?"
"That sounds cool, and it's not like there is anything else I could do tomorrow."
"Exactly. Sounds like a plan. Now let's go, I'm starving."
"No, I have to clean up first. I can't leave my work space a mess."
"Ok…"
We quickly cleaned up the dust and debris, then got ready to leave.
When we went outside Layla got to see the McLoud 650S for the first time.
She was stunned for a moment before excitedly saying, "Wow, now isn't that something!? What's the horse power? How is the handling? Traction control? Does it have launch settings?"
"You just asked a bunch of questions I know nothing about. Here, how about you find out tomorrow when you can drive it at the track."
"Ok! Man, now I'm really looking forward to tomorrow!"
While leaving we saw the guys working on the foundation cleaning up as well, it seemed like they were done for the day.
…
We got home, ate and went to sleep.
The amount of time I get to spend in leisure has been dwindling day by day. This upgrade ability has been transforming my work ethic for the better.
I woke up the next morning feeling a bit drained. I guess the thoughts about my missing leisure time affected me more than I thought.
But, that won't prevent me from trying to have a good day.
While we were making breakfast I told Layla about everything she would need, helmet, and sign a waiver. She mentioned that she had a fire suit, that was apparently the name of what that lady I met yesterday was wearing.
I mentioned that I met someone yesterday wearing one and that I asked if she would give us some tips when or if we showed up.
We quickly finished breakfast and got ready.
We left before the sun had even fully risen.
But daylight is daylight and the only thing we want to burn today is rubber.
…
We arrived at the track as the sun was fully rising.
Layla went through the sign up process by signing the waiver and getting a helmet.
While I was waiting for Layla I saw the Pagini pull into the parking lot and make its way over to the track entrance bay.
I decided to wait for Layla before making my way over as she would know where to go.
After a while Layla came out and we made our way into the track entrance bay. Where we saw the Pagini still sitting off to the side. It seems she waited for us.
I was grateful that I wouldn't have to track her down later.
I parked the car nearby and had Layla follow me over.
Once we got near the car the lady got out.
I started the conversation, "Hey, thanks for waiting for us."
She responded, "Yeah."
Layla then spoke up, "Hey, I'm Layla. I heard from him that he asked for tips on driving, and I wanted to say thanks for going out of your way to help."
The lady responded again, much more willingly this time, "It's not a problem, my name is Aerial."
Layla, "Aerial. That is such a pretty name!"
Aerial, "Thank you, Layla is a lovely name as well."
As they started talking I became a 3rd party observer to their conversation which I was grateful for because I was really feeling tired today. The last thing I wanted to do was try to hold a conversation with someone right now.
Aerial, "I heard that you have some experience with cars."
Layla, "Yeah. Though it is more about working on them than driving. I have a basic understanding of driving, though not enough to call myself knowledgeable."
Aerial, "Oh, you work on cars? I heard that you and him have a business together?"
Layla, "Yeah, we fix up old cars. Right now I'm working on an old 1969 Corvelle Stingray."
Aerial, "Oooh, I love that car, do you have a buyer lined up?"
Layla, "As a matter of fact we don't."
Aerial, "Well then, when the car is done you will have to let me have the first look. If it looks good I might just buy it."
Layla, "Haha, I'll hold you to that."
I while spacing out found a moment I could step in, "We are also developing new car parts."
Aerial, "That's cool."
Layla, "We have managed to make some with theoretically better performance, but we still have to go through the testing phase."
Aerial, "Oh, really? You have actually made some progress? Do you think you can out pace the other major companies?"
Layla, "I don't have confidence, but this guy does. More than enough for the both of us."
Me, "Realistically, major corporations will withhold a certain amount of technological advancements from the public. However, even taking that into consideration we should still be ahead."
Aerial, "Uh-huh, and the military?"
Me, "Not a chance, they are already a few generations ahead of the public. But, if it is solely car parts we might be close. Though I can't really be sure without seeing what they have for myself."
Aerial, "Sure."
