Chapter 29 - Out to Eat with Granny [3]

After we finished ordering our drinks the waitress excused herself and went back inside.

We looked at the menu while we waited.

The menu consisted of a bunch of Italian words and fancy words most people wouldn't know.

I never really understood why they did that, other than to appear ostentatious.

What is the point of a menu if your patrons don't know what they are ordering?

After a while a new server showed up with our drinks.

The server was a handsome black guy. He was decisively animated with his presentations.

He felt like a pure blooded theater kid, who finally got to act in a job.

When he spoke about the dishes it was in a well rehearsed eloquently spoken Italian accent. His theatrics really won over my mom, she loves this kind of stuff.

He asked us if we had decided on anything.

We could only say not yet, as the menu was decidable, we were only taking our time.

When he heard that he asked if we would like to hear the specials for the night.

He went back into his overt theatrics announcing tonight's specials.

I do have to admit he made them sound appetizing.

I had decided on the spot to order one of the specials because it sounded the best.

My grandmother decided to get the same thing as me. I guess great people do think alike.

After my mom ordered, the server left us to ourselves.

My mom started, "Wow, that was great!"

"Yeah he really put on a little performance for us." I had to agree. I like when people can really be themselves.

Then my grandmother chimed in, "From what I could hear he was doing good."

"What you could hear? Could you not hear what he was saying?" my mom asked.

Granny responded, "Not really, I haven't been hearing too good out of this ear. So I could only hear a little of what he said."

"Mom, you should have told me. I'm sure he would have told us the menu again. Do you even want what you ordered?"

"Yes, I do. And there's no need to have him do it when I know what I'm gonna get."

"So what's wrong with your ear? Why haven't I heard anything about it?"

"Ha" I quietly chuckled at the irony of what mom had said. But I figured I would just remain quiet like I always did.

I was raised to not speak unless spoken to, or if others were talking, wait until they are done to speak.

I'm sure this has caused a few problems in my private life, which will be a minor struggle to overcome.

While I sat in silence looking off into the dark night, my mom and granny were talking about her going to the doctor to look at her ears.

Before switching to other topics I wasn't paying attention to.

They chattered on for a while before the food came.

Which looked amazing.

I quickly unwrapped my utensils and put the cloth in my lap.

Then I dug in.

The food was honestly amazing. I am not just saying that, I am very critical about rating things. I will not over nor under praise something. That is just how I am.

I would rate it a 9/10 only because their dessert menu was a little lackluster.

The food though was amazing, you could taste the fresh ingredients. They definitely came from the local farms within the last few days, if not a daily purchase. All of which was cooked to near perfection.

Truly a good restaurant, deserving of praise. Especially considering how nice the wait staff was. It was a real class restaurant.

While I was finishing my plate my mom paid for the meals. I was planning to surprise them by paying but I was a little too late.

What a shame.

While I was lamenting my plan, mom made a comment.

"Wow you finished your plate, I guess that means that I have to make better food."

"Yeah, that's the problem, we both like good food but hate cooking."

"Oh god. Isn't that the truth?"

"Yeah good food is easy to eat, but it is a bitch to make."

"You're telling me."

Both my mom and I hate cooking, because you spend so much of your time doing something that you will just have to do again later.

That's why most of our food is frozen. It is quick, easy, and doesn't leave a mess that you have to clean up.

True modern super foods.

After I finished eating, we decided to leave.

I helped granny get up and gather her things before making my way to the patio door to hold it open for my mom and grandmother.

We made our way out of the restaurant to the still sparse parking lot and then into the car.

We drove the short distance back to granny's house, where we all alighted from the car and made our way inside.

While the both of them got comfortable in the living room to watch TV. I started to walk around the house while looking at my phone.

Reading the WebNovel I had chosen earlier.

While reading I paced my way around the house. Because I knew we would be here for a while.

Around that time I received an InstaPics notification from Layla Adrienne. The WorstBuy girl.

She messaged, "Hey, what are you doing?"

"Nothing much. Just hanging out with my family after dinner."

"That sounds nice."

"What about you?"

"Pretty much the same. Just in my room."

Well I'm not really sure where to go from here? I have talked to girls in the past, but I am terrible at texting. When I am in person I can keep the conversation going a little easier.

"Well I don't want to interrupt your family time, so I will just ask straight up. There is a car meet tomorrow night that I am going to and I wanted to know if you would like to go?"

"Sure! That sounds like fun. Where do I have to go?"

"Great! You don't have to go anywhere, I will pick you up. How does 10 sound?"

"10 sounds great, that works for me. I live at …"

"Nice, I will see you then."

"Ok, see you then."

And with that our short conversation came to an end.

While I had the app open I decided to look at her account a little closer.

So I clicked on her profile.
