Awakening to the same nearly endless darkness only broken by the glow of the TV, in my windowless room.
I groggily grab my phone off of my night stand to check the time.
[5:30]
Yeah… that's about what I thought it would be. I knew I would wake up around 5 in the morning. I know myself better than I think I do.
Ugh.
Reaching over I grab my glass of water, and down half of the glass.
"Time to start the day!" I enthusiastically tell myself.
I bounce out of bed, turn around and make my bed.
I read somewhere that one of the best things you can do in the morning is make your bed. Because it is a quick and easy accomplishment to start your day. Which is said to be good for mental wellbeing. Ever since I read that I have started the day is pretty much the same way every day; by making my bed.
Now it is time to prepare myself for another long day, not as long as yesterday, hopefully.
I quickly brush my teeth then take a quick shower, to put myself into the right mindset for the day.
Then I walk into my office to check the progress of the AI.
Looking at the progress I was a bit disheartened. The average download speed I could get was around 200 Megabytes a second. Split that between 2 knowledge hungry AI on 1 Terabyte drives. That requires around 166 hours give or take based on download speeds.
I slept for roughly 8 hours, meaning there are about 158 hours, or 6 and a half days, until the Terabyte storage drive fills up.
However, I'm going to need a significantly greater amount of data which is just going to take even longer.
Crap…
I'm going to need to prioritize the hacking AI just to up the internet speeds to my house. But, even then, the internet lines to my house; or even just in my area. Are not up to date. What can I do to speed this up?
Try to upgrade the whole Internet lines in the area? I think people would notice that.
But, I am out of ideas so screw it lets try.
Walking out of my house into the chilly morning dew, still covered in darkness. I walk over to the internet junction box by the side of the road. I place my hand on it… welp nothing happened.
I wonder why that is though? Is it too big? Or is it because I am just touching the case?
If it were the case the computer and S-box would be the same. So I don't think that is the reason.
Let's try something. I walk back up my driveway, up to my mom's car. I place my hand on it to find that similarly to the internet box, nothing happened.
So it would seem that I need to own the items to upgrade them.
What defines ownership though?
I didn't buy the router that I upgraded, or the TV. My mom bought the router, and my mom's little brother, my uncle, gave us the TV.
Ok. It is time to test some things.
…
20 minutes later.
I have been creeping around the house for the last 20 minutes touching various items to try and find what I can upgrade.
What I found was a little interesting. So, ownership is a more implied one for cheaper or less significant items, but is quite strict for more expensive ones.
For example some things that my mom bought for US to use, I have ownership of, like the blender. But things I have spent money on but not to the extent my mother has, I don't have ownership of, like the house; if that even can be upgraded.
I have paid for the mortgage before but I can't upgrade the house. However you can apply that to the car as well. I have paid for some of that, but similarly it cannot be upgraded.
Perhaps it has a mix of the emotions of those involved and actual equity. If they don't want you to have full control then you wont, unless you have more equity.
Yeah, I think that sounds pretty accurate.
Now that my tangent has been satisfied I can really dive into the AI.
After checking the experience gained over night I was saddened at the mere 55 I had gained over night and early this morning.
At least that puts the AI and storage device above half. Now I only have to sit here for 45 minutes before I can upgrade them.
Well, I better get some breakfast before the long haul.
Sneaking upstairs, I grab my cereal out of the cupboard and douse it in whole milk, before heading back down into my cave.
For the past few months I have been trying a different cereal every time I go to the grocery store. I just wanted to shake up the day to day and try something new.
It has been a cool experience, one that I encourage others to try. Just eat something new as much as possible to see what's out there. See what you really like and what you don't.
Though I know it seems kind of expensive, you just have to eat the things you don't like to not waste money or food.
What a privileged opinion to have, I know.
Now that I have my sugary cereal, I can get back to worrying about how to make the internet faster.
I think the best plan is the previously abandoned idea. The one involving StarConnect, the portable satellite. Even though it is expensive, I think it will be well worth the initial cost.
Upgrading the satellite then hacking in to prioritize my downloads, allows for faster internet and the ability to take it with me in the event that I move.
I would not be able to upgrade the satellites that are in orbit, but I'm fairly certain they are relatively new. Which means they should be able to handle the faster speeds I'm looking for.
Yeah, that sounds like the most feasible option.
Anyway, time for the time skip.
