Roy looked at her side. "No. It's because you have the Shikon Jewel inside you."
"What! The Shikon Jewel!" Kaede bolted upright, her serious expression startling Kagome. After Kaede explained its history—how it attracts demons and was once guarded by Kikyo—Kagome realized the danger she was in.
As night fell, the village erupted in panicked screams. Mistress Centipede had arrived. Roy and Kagome stepped out to see a monster forty meters long, with the lower body of a centipede and the head of a woman.
"That's the monster from the well!" Kagome cried.
The farmers fired arrows, but Roy shook his head at their weak effort. The demon spun like a top, deflecting the arrows effortlessly. "Mere humans! Ridiculous!" She swung her tail, threatening to crush several huts.
Roy frowned. He couldn't let his hosts be killed. Golden lightning flickered in his palm, shaping into a spear. He lunged and hurled it with the force of his Level 3 strength. The spear pierced the demon, the electrical discharge making her shriek in agony as the force pushed her massive body away from the houses.
Kagome stared, stunned. "You're... that strong?"
"She's after the jewel inside you," Roy said. "What do you want to do?" "Can you beat her?" Kagome asked, eyes wide with hope. "It's a fifty-fifty chance," Roy lied.
Kagome stomped her foot in anxiety. "Give me the jewel," Roy said meaningfully. "Maybe then I can win."

Kagome studied him. Kaede had warned her the jewel attracted greed from both humans and demons. Was her "countryman" one of them?
Roy smiled, not hiding his intent. He had a moral compass, so he wouldn't steal it, but he was a trader at heart. He would protect the village, but not necessarily her. And the demon was only here for her.
Kagome looked at her stomach, then at the hideous demon. She gritted her teeth. "Take it! I don't even know what it's for anyway!"
"Smart choice."
Roy manifested a small lightning-blade and moved toward her. Kagome flinched. Is it sterilized? Roy made a tiny incision and flicked out a glowing, blood-stained purple jewel. Kagome hissed in pain.
"Noah Heal!" Roy didn't even look at the jewel first; he cast the healing spell, and the emerald light closed Kagome's wound instantly.
Roy picked up the jewel. It was the size of a thumb, shimmering with an eerie energy. The system panel popped up:

"The Jewel!" Mistress Centipede sensed the aura and charged maniacally.
Roy stopped pretending. Against a demon with stats roughly equivalent to a Level 2, a Level 3 veteran like Roy didn't even need to sweat. He condensed his lightning into a massive orb and hurled it. On contact, the demon's body vaporized under the extreme heat.
BOOM! A crater five meters wide was left in the ground.
Kagome was speechless. Fifty-fifty? I should have downloaded a scam-alert app...
