Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: The Authorities’ Alarm

As the night drew to a close, Roy used Kanai Kimishima's identification to check into a room, claiming that the Parasyte investigation was a secret operation and he couldn't expose himself.

What could Kanai Kimishima do? It would be easy for these two to simply snatch her ID.

Watching Roy enter the room with two beautiful girls, the girl at the counter looked at him with contempt.

What a scumbag!

She remembered the heartbreak she had experienced when she was younger…

Due to limited operational funds, only two rooms were rented: one for Ryuu and Kanai Kimishima, and one for Roy alone. In Orario, aside from military weaponry, everyday items were not too different from modern times.

There were also refrigerators, gas stoves, and similar appliances, but while modern society relied on electricity, Orario relied on magic stones for energy. Thus, Roy wasn't worried that Ryuu wouldn't adapt.

Roy poured himself another bottle of low-grade life potion. A vital, emerald-green light flickered on his skin. The wound inflicted by that punk Juggernaut hadn't fully healed yet.

He lay in bed, his mind deep in thought.

Being able to fish out five Parasytes today was because the pond was full of fish, but one less is one less. Predictably, the number would decrease over time. They might not find even one in three to five days, so they had to plan ahead.

Roy didn't have much patience.

It was like downloading a game. He was indifferent when the progress bar was in the middle, but if it got stuck at 99.8%, he would want to smash the computer.

Roy's gaze shifted toward the municipal building.

The big boss, Goto, and the large group of Parasytes surrounding him—wiping them all out would allow them to quickly complete this Dungeon instance!

However, this matter required careful planning.

The eagerness to level up to LV.2 didn't affect Roy. The more crucial the moment, the calmer he needed to be.

Goto was different from other Parasytes. He was a special existence created by Reiko Tamura.

With four Parasytes (Miki, etc.) residing in the same body, Goto could fully unify his consciousness throughout his whole body, unleashing extremely powerful combat capabilities. His body could undergo extensive hardening, shrugging off scattered shotgun fire.

His speed exceeded $60 \text{ km/h}$, and Roy suspected that wasn't even his limit. Purely based on physical ability, he was no weaker than an LV.4 monster!

The night passed uneventfully.

After the trio woke up, washed up, and finished breakfast, Shinichi Izumi rushed over immediately.

"Thank you very, very much!"

Shinichi Izumi's face showed the relief of having survived a great danger, and he looked at Roy with profound gratitude.

Following Roy's reminder, he had called his parents yesterday and urged them to return to the hotel quickly.

Less than half an hour after his parents left that area, a couple was murdered. If they had delayed leaving by just ten more minutes, his parents would have been the ones who died!

Shinichi Izumi broke out in a cold sweat from the scare. Although he felt bad for the other victims, he was overjoyed that his parents survived.

Roy waved his hand. "Don't mention it. It was a minor thing. You came at a good time. Your father must have been questioned by the police yesterday. Please ask him to contact the police for me. Tell them… I have vital information regarding the Parasytes!"

Shinichi Izumi's eyes widened. He almost doubted his hearing. What was this person saying? Everyone else avoided anything to do with Parasytes.

"Alright."

Given the life-saving kindness toward his parents, Shinichi Izumi couldn't very well refuse Roy's request.

Roy looked at Kanai Kimishima. "Your mission is complete. You are free to do as you please. Continuing to stay with us might attract police attention. I won't disclose your information. I have that much integrity."

Kanai Kimishima recalled plots from certain movies where humans who could sense monsters like her were usually dissected for research. She broke out in a cold sweat from the shock.

"Thank you!"

After expressing her gratitude, Kanai Kimishima ran home in a panic. After yesterday's Parasyte hunt, she understood what the signals she usually sensed were, and she would never dare to rush toward those signals again.

Hearing the news about the Parasytes, especially from an involved party, the police arrived at lightning speed.

Hirama, the Assistant Police Inspector and the true person in charge of Parasyte affairs in this small town, entered the family restaurant. He was a middle-aged man of medium build with a face full of wrinkles that showed the weariness of an adult, and he wore clear-rimmed glasses.

Under Roy's instruction, Shinichi Izumi pinned everything on Roy, including the Parasyte hunt yesterday and the warning about his parents' potential danger.

This was all done to increase the police's regard for Roy.

"Isn't that a middle schooler?"

"Could he be infected?"

Two young police officers whispered to each other, a hint of wariness in their eyes, until Hirama quietly commanded, "Quiet!" Only then did they fall silent.

"Hello!"

Hirama forced himself to be brave and politely offered his hand.

Roy shook his hand openly and smiled. "I am human. There's no need to doubt that."

Hirama stared at Roy for a long time. Although he didn't have the ability to distinguish between a Parasyte and a human, as a veteran police officer, he was good at reading people.

"We did indeed discover the corpses of five Parasytes yesterday. So it was your doing. Thank you very much for removing this danger from society." Hirama bowed deeply to Roy, his attitude extremely sincere.

"No, no. Protecting society is everyone's responsibility," Roy said with a beaming smile, helping the old officer stand upright.

Hirama subconsciously used a term of respect. "I heard you have information about other Parasytes."

Roy looked toward the municipal building and said ominously, "Mayor Takeshi Hirokawa. He has over twenty Parasytes around him. It is the largest nest in this town."

"What?!"

The muscles in Hirama's face seemed to twitch. His expression was serious. "Can you confirm this?"

"If it were only one or two Parasytes, we could have handled it ourselves," Roy smiled, emphasizing that they had cleared out five Parasytes yesterday.

Hirama fell silent. After a long moment, "This matter exceeds my jurisdiction. I need to report this to my superiors. Please wait a moment."

"The sooner the better!"

Roy added, "If they find out and re-infiltrate human society, it will be hard to find them again. They can change their appearance."

"Yes, sir!"

Roy's manipulation was highly effective. Hirama's report was rapidly passed up the chain of command, startling everyone at the highest level. Overnight, everyone was wary.

The existence of Parasytes was too terrifying.

Their extraordinary strength was secondary; the most terrifying thing was their ability to take over a person's brain and continue to exist using that person's body and appearance.

Unknowingly, they could even steal the highest authority of the nation.

The situation in this small town was the best example: Mayor Takeshi Hirokawa and a large group of Parasytes had usurped the municipal building as their stronghold.

Therefore, Roy knew well that the Japanese authorities would prioritize dealing with the Parasytes over them, the two "superhumans" who could kill Parasytes.

By the time Goto and the others were dealt with, he and Ryuu would have already slipped away. Trying to capture them for research was wishful thinking.
