Chapter 5: St. Mungo's

"On the evening of August 31, a terrifying dark wizard attack took place in a Muggle community in the Kensington-Chelsea district of London. A male wizard named Alger Rosier used dark magic to destroy the entire street, resulting in many Muggle injuries. Luckily, nobody has died so far. According to reports, the Department of Legal Enforcement and the Department of Magical Accidents and Disasters at the Ministry of Magic have officially taken charge of the case and are actively managing the situation."

"According to people close to the matter, this incident was a deliberate and premeditated attack on Jon Vesemir, head of the Department of Regulatory and Control of Magical Creatures, and his family."

"The wizard Alger Rosier, who initiated this attack, was once known as a follower of You-Know-Who, but after his fall, Rosier escaped persecution on the grounds of being 'under the control of the Imperius Curse.' In light of the aftermath of this incident, we at the Daily Prophet doubt the authenticity of his defence. As of this report, Alger Rosier has been detained by the Ministry of Magic. His trial will be held on September 5th, where The Daily Prophet will follow up and report on the entire process".

Ivan shook his hands and reread the Daily Prophet, as he had over the past three days. His gaze swept across the photo on the front page that took up the whole page, with a cold expression and a fierce look in his eyes. Alger Rosier was forced to take this photo while under the control of several Aurors.

As if sensing his gaze, Alger's photo showed a chilling smile.

Ivan stared fixedly at Alger's photo, whose eyes flashed, revealing the madness within. After a while, he threw the newspaper on the bedside table and lay down on the soft hospital bed again.

This is the St. Mungo's Magic Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, and it's been three whole days since the attack.

That night, after the black-robed wizard made him drink the bottle of black potion of unknown origin, he was overwhelmed by intense pain and hallucinations, and he lost consciousness almost instantly.

And when he woke up, he was already lying on a hospital bed on the fifth floor of St. Mungo's. His mother was lying in bed, sound asleep.

Then there were all sorts of complicated and strange examinations. The Healer-in-Charge cast no fewer than ten spells on him and looked at him with suspicion and scrutiny for quite a while before somewhat reluctantly saying that he was fully recovered with no lasting effects.

It wasn't until his mother said that he would stay in the hospital for a few more days to make sure that nothing was wrong that the therapist smiled happily.

So Ivan, with no choice, stayed at St. Mungo's and received regular checkups each day, drank some nauseous potions, and then "walked two steps" under the advice of the Healer. Finally, he was allowed to rest on the hospital bed again.

Ivan learned from his mother that he had been admitted to the hospital only the day before. A constant flow of visitors arrived, and their condolences nearly filled the ward. Even the Minister of Magic, Millicent Bagnold, paid a special visit, holding Mrs. Vesemir's hand to assure her that she would initiate an unprecedented cleanup during her tenure, removing all people and items connected to the dark wizard and eliminating them from the wizarding world.

Of course, Ivan knew that this was nonsense.

Although he still likes the Minister of Magic - at least she is better than Cornelius Fudge, who will take over next year — in terms of dark wizards and black magic items, the Ministry of Magic doesn't have much ability to eliminate them all.

At least in Ivan's memory, Lucius Malfoy, who is still a member of the Death Eaters, kept more than one item related to dark magic in his home, including a Horcrux made in a truly evil way. Not to mention Knockturn Alley, which most wizards consider to be the home of dark wizards; the contraband there is estimated to fill the entire St. Mungo's Magical Hospital.

Cornelius Fudge, though?

Ivan stroked his chin.

It's now 1989, with a little over three months left in the year. Nearly two years before Harry Potter, the "Boy Who Lived," begins his studies at Hogwarts to learn magic.

Then he would have to stay away from him. Thinking this, Ivan couldn't help but smile and turned his face to glance at the "Daily Prophet" on the bedside table.

In the entire report on the attack of the dark wizard, there is an inconspicuous corner that describes another relatively inconspicuous matter in a few lines.

The current director of the Department of Magical Creatures Management and Control at the Ministry of Magic, Jon Vesemir's only son, Ivan Vesemir, who just turned eleven on the day of the attack, first awakened his magical talent during this incident with Alger Rosier. When they found him on a hill, they detected traces of underage magic.

In other words, Ivan, who has always been considered a squib, was lacking the talent for awakening due to some unknown reasons.

The Vesemirs wept with joy when they learned that their son had awakened his magic.

But only Ivan himself knew that this was not a "belated burst of magic power," but due to the potion that the black-robed wizard forced him to drink.

Of course, claiming that a bottle of potion can turn a Squib into a wizard is too far-fetched. Ivan is more inclined to think differently; that is, the Squib itself is magical, but for some reason, it cannot summon its magic. The bottle of potion merely acted as bait, drawing out the "magic power" hidden deep within the Squib's soul, allowing it to perform magic normally.

Although it is not as exaggerated as imagined, it remains an invention that could turn the wizarding world upside down.

As for side effects and other issues, Ivan is not yet sure.

After he was discharged from the hospital, he planned to carefully read the books on potions to see if he could find any clues.

Another thing that needs to be confirmed is the identity of the black-robed wizard.

I don't know if there are other things mixed in the potion. After Ivan woke up from the coma, he had already forgotten all the information related to the black-robed wizard. He only remembered that he was a powerful man who could defeat Alger, a powerful wizard.

The speculation about his true identity before the coma appeared to be completely wiped out by some mysterious force.

Fortunately, the Aurors didn't pay much attention to this unusual situation. They only thought it was amnesia caused by a severe trauma. They told Ivan to get well, and if he remembered any information, they would notify him. He never saw them again.
