Chapter 4 - What He Was Looking For

His plan was genius, but the only problem was that Roy didn't know where to find such men.

After a week of continuous sales, Roy wasn't able to take it. He left his office and started on an adventure with his driver.

"Hmm… Is this the right place?" Roy muttered as he adjusted his coat. He stepped into a narrow street on the outskirts of Bridgemoor City.

Bridgemoor City was the place where they lived. It was a large bustling metropolis known for its business district and expensive skyline. However, the outskirts of the city were none of that.

Currently, they were at the rural border just outside Bridgemoor. It was known as Mentis, a quieter countryside town filled with old buildings and stretches of green land for farming. The place was rumored to house several… groups.

They were the group of people who enjoyed rough work, had intimidating physiques, and weren't exactly the "customer-friendly" type.

It was perfect for Roy's genius plan.

Beside him walked his driver, Tony. He was a middle-aged man in his early 40s, who looked uncomfortable even being here. He kept glancing around nervously, worried since they weren't familiar with the place, and Roy didn't want to bring any of his bodyguards.

"I still can't believe we're doing this, sir," Tony muttered, scratching the back of his head. "Why are you even looking for frightening men?"

"It's because I need employees who will scare customers away, Tony." Roy crossed his arms and sighed. "The cheerful ones back at the shop are ruining everything for me."

"Your father wouldn't be happy if he learned that you're not learning at all, Sir."

"I don't want to hear anything about that old man again," Roy sighed, waving a hand dismissively.

Tony let out a long, defeated sigh. "Alright, sir… but, well," he hesitated for a second before continuing, "I heard your father has called for your second brother already."

Roy stopped walking when he heard that.

"It seems like your brother is set to replace you in the company, Sir." Tony swallowed, pausing uneasily.

Roy's jaw clenched at that.

Of course. Of course, that old man would do that.

In the back of his mind, Roy could practically hear his father's disappointed voice—one he always heard whenever he did something not on par with expectations.

That old man really wants to replace me, he thought bitterly. Couldn't he even wait a single week before throwing another son into my position? Pathetic.

He clicked his tongue and forced himself to relax. Annoyance simmered beneath his expression, but he shrugged casually. He didn't want to ruin his day.

"Oh well, that's fine," he said. "I already have money of my own. My money in the bank is in millions. I could live on my own. I don't need him… or his precious company."

"Sir…" Tony glanced at him nervously.

Roy lifted a finger and tapped his temple, a smirk pulling at his lips.

"And besides," he continued, "I just need to hit the company with enough loss, and everything will fall perfectly into place. After that, I will quit and live on my own. Don't worry."

"It all starts with that mart. After all, it's precious to my dad and it's still under our company's name. Whatever happens there will drag the entire business down with it." He glanced at Tony and smiled.

"Sir… that sounds…" Tony faltered, unsure how to respond without sounding rude.

"Don't worry," Roy muttered.

Tony opened his mouth but decided it was better to stop arguing. He let out a tired sigh and continued walking beside his boss. He had no choice but to trust him, for now.

Roy and Tony continued walking. They passed multiple shops. One thing Roy noticed was how quiet the place was. There were people around, but they weren't noisy or loud. Everyone seemed to have their own worlds, unlike the people in the city.

Walking for hours, they passed different markets in the area. Roy was observing, trying to see what things to put in his store.

But instead of getting ideas, all he realized was that shops with cheerful staff members tend to get more customers.

"See that?" Roy muttered, glaring at a mart across the road. The employees inside were laughing while stacking shelves and talking to customers.

"Why are these people so lively? They live in the countryside and still manage to be cheerful. It's so… frustrating."

"People here are simple, sir. They like friendly service and familiar faces." Tony scratched his cheek awkwardly, confused by his boss's frustration.

"That's exactly the problem! Liveliness attracts customers. Customers increase sales. Sales make the store look successful. Successful stores don't collapse!" Roy groaned.

Tony sighed again. At this point, he didn't know what to do with his boss anymore. It seemed like Roy had lost his mind after getting fired.

"Let's just walk again, Sir." That was all Tony could say.

Roy sighed and agreed. They strolled around the area more. Hours passed, and still Roy hadn't found anyone to hire.

But that was fine. He wasn't one to back down from something he had his mind set on.

And so they kept walking, passing multiple streets and countless stores. They were about to call it a day when suddenly loud voices caught their attention.

"Whoa!" Roy's eyes widened.

At a distance, a group of men was walking down the street toward them. There were around eight of them. Some had frail bodies, but most were large, with shaved heads and matching clothes, an emblem stitched across the back.

Their presence alone was intimidating.

Tony tensed immediately. "Uh… sir… maybe we should turn back. It's not saf—"

But Roy's face lit up, as if he had just found a treasure chest.

"That's them!" Roy muttered, eyes sparkling with excitement. "Tony, look! That's exactly the kind of people I'm looking for!"

Roy stepped forward with zero hesitation, completely ignoring Tony, who looked like he wanted to faint.

"These men are perfect!" Roy declared proudly. "They have big bodies and are intimidating. They'll scare the customers right out of the store even if they smiled!"

"S-Sir… I really don't think they're the type you can just… hire." Tony froze.

But Roy wasn't listening. Instead, he was already walking straight toward the group.
