[3rd POV]
Makima turned away as Reze dismantled her summons.
She was strong, she'll give her that.
Too bad she didn't get to use her as her weapon as she intended with the invitation to join the Public Safety Commission. Even if she worked under Jin, that would put her under Makima's authority, making her control stronger so that she might have a chance to slowly get her on her side.
But not all things went her way.
Makima turned towards the Headquarters, her eyes narrowing at the windows but she couldn't see anything as the dolls had perfectly blocked her vision.
She walked towards the headquarters, her body shifting as she was about to exchange places with a bird near the building. But then something fell in front of her.
A black ball.
No.
When the head rolled, you could see that it was the head of Reze in her Bomb Devil form.
No one had killed her. But she tore off her own head and kicked it towards Makima like kicking a football.
"Sorry but no date," the head said, "I have a boyfriend,"
BOOOM!!!
Makima was saved by the Shark Devil who carried her to another location.
After the explosion was done, Reze stood up, fully naked this time as it was a new body. Although the apron made of dynamite covered most of her private parts.
Insufferable.
Makima didn't show it but she was in deep trouble.
Santa Claus had the Chainsaw's heart. She doubted they knew of Chainsaw's ability to erase anything he ate from existence, but the heart was still special enough that it could lead to a way to kill her.
Maybe it was a bad idea to not get close to Denji just because he would be the one to kill her.
She thought the best way to avoid her death was to change her plan and do the opposite of what she would do, which is use Denji the moment he appeared.
But she held off the idea due to caution.
If not, she would've controlled Denji by now and made him go against Jin so that the two could fight and Jin would eat the Chainsaw Devil and gain his abilities.
That was her intention at first, and still is, although delayed. Her plan was to own Jin by making the whole world turn against him and make him eat the Chainsaw Devil.
Horrible.
Her current situation was horrible.
"You're not going anywhere," Reze said, standing in front of her.
Makima stayed silent, carefully planning her next move.
...
But it was all too late.
All eyes widened.
Everything that had life could feel the sudden suffocation. Makima felt this type of thing before from Jin. But this was on a different level. Comparing them would be like comparing a toy truck to a real one.
"No," Makima uttered, her eyes shaking and finally showing an emotion.
Fear.
Darkness descended.
"So this was the plan," she said with a shaky breath.
Silence.
Darkness.
Makima lost her vision as everything became black. She blinked, realizing instantly that the Darkness Devil had appeared in front of her and she was looking at it.
"What...?"
The Darkness Devil swung something, perhaps an arm. She didn't know because its body was pure darkness.
Reze who was behind, shot out without even the explosion of force. Like an object that suddenly had its vector switched.
Her body ragdolled through buildings. And buildings. And more buildings until you couldn't even hear the sound. She was likely thrown away from the ward entirely.
After that, the Darkness Devil turned towards each of Makima's summons. Its gaze was enough to kill.
The Angel Devil in the distance lost his light, his ears bleeding until the feathers fell off and it was a huge tumor behind his back. Blood came out from the nose as he collapsed.
Death in a single stare.
The Violence Fiend came in fast, throwing an attack. But with a stare of darkness, he lost his arms.
There was no sound. No action. Arms were there and then no arms. Like it was a mistake in the animation of reality.
He spun around, creating a small hurricane and tried to kick towards the Darkness Devil.
But inches away, his leg stopped inches away from the pure darkness in front of Makima. His legs were pulled back, crushed and it continued for his whole body like a black hole had appeared at the middle of his torso.
The Violence Devil became a pea sized ball of flesh and fell to the ground.
Dead.
The Shark Devil was gone too.
Pools of blood began seeping out from the place where he once stood. The concrete spread the blood like water would spread blood. It was like the Shark Devil was killed in the ocean. After the blood, its mangled body floated on the red pool.
The Whip Devil Hybrid.
The Flamethrower Devil Hybrid.
They died when the Darkness got a hold of their chain.
When Makima tried to pull away, she realized she had no arms. The chain now belonged to the Darkness Devil and what was used as a symbol of control turned into a shadow and shadow was nothing.
The two Devil Hybrids turned into shadow on their spot and then the sun killed them.
How long had passed since the battle with the Darkness Devil?
A few seconds?
The Darkness Devil killed everyone that belonged to Makima.
Makima collapsed on her spot, kneeling in front of the darkness. Her nostrils became flooded with blood. It wasn't just a nosebleed, it was like her nose became taps where her blood and her brain could drain out.
But she wasn't dead.
She was still alive.
The contract stands.
The darkness, pure darkness, seemed to tilt its head in confusion.
Makima sat down on the ground, her body completely limp but still enough strength to be upright. Her legs were spread in a broken kneeling position, folded legs that spread like wings on the ground.
She was killed again and again and again.
Until it stopped.
Slowly, the darkness blew away like it was smoke. And the body of the Darkness Devil was revealed.
Primordial Devils, created from Primal fears, didn't really have bodies as they were more like living concepts. But the form it took was that of a pure white form, like dried skull.
The Darkness Devil's body was made up of many emaciated human bodies, with two bodies acting as its legs and four other human bodies acting as its torso. Each had a unique face.
The one immediately below the neck has no eyes, nose and a vertical mouth, the second head has open eyes and a stitched mouth, the third one has no nose, an open mouth and stitched eyes, and the fourth one has no eyes and a somber expression.
Its head is akin to that of a pteranodon with curved horns and it had massive wings behind its back. The outer shell had skin but the wing facing forward was pure darkness, like looking at space without stars.
"Heh," Makima breathed out.
She turned her head up to look at the Darkness Devil.
"You can't kill me either,"
The Darkness Devil raised its head slightly and then grabbed the air. A black sword appeared in its hands and it stabbed Makima at the heart.
Slowly.
Inch by inch.
After the sword went through, small bells at its handguard jingled.
It was a quiet sound that sounded so loud.
Immediately, Makima's face contorted into agony. A small scream of pain, tiny, like a squirrel came out. Something exploded inside of her body and black liquid came pouring out from her pores.
Makima felt unimaginable pain.
And her healing stopped completely.
She was a corpse, except living.
She couldn't heal, but she didn't die either.
The Darkness Devil tilted its head, confused for a moment. Then its arm reached down and scooped up the pool of blood and brain matter that fell from Makima's nose.
It took a sip of the red paste and then...
Knew immediately about her contract.
Every secret made in darkness, it could know.
The Darkness Devil took a step back and folded its arms while watching Makima writhe in agony.
Makima wished she could die.
That was the amount of pain she was in.
But the Darkness Devil killed her no more. It folded its arms and stood in front of her like a statue.
It was waiting.
For what?
Seconds passed.
Seconds turned into minutes.
And it took nearly an hour for Makima to realise what the Darkness Devil was doing.
Fear gripped her heart.
True fear.
The fear of death.
It was the first time in decades since she felt this horror.
....
It was between 2-3 pm in Japan, so in the afternoon. Denji was taken to hell at around midday.
So Japan was experiencing daylight.
It had the protection of the sun.
But continents like North America and South America were experiencing night.
They were experiencing darkness.
And all around the globe, all the places that were experiencing the night, Japanese citizens were killed.
A foreign student studying abroad in the United States was suffocated in his sleep. The darkness of his room suddenly had weight, and he drowned in the darkness like he was at the depth of the ocean.
A tourist in Canada was reading a book in his hotel room. His room was dark but a small lantern beside his bed lit up so he could read. The shadows extended, darkness gained solid mass and it choked the man to death.
It continued.
Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia etc.
All these countries in the other side of the globe, in the darkness of their night, all the Japanese citizens were killed.
The Japanese in Brazil, all those who worked there and still retained their Japanese citizenship were killed. The country experienced the most death since it had the largest Japanese population excluding Japan.
The sun was slowly setting even in the Asian continent as well. As the sun set in India, all the Japanese citizens met their end the moment the light of the sun didn't protect them.
This was the conclusion the Darkness Devil had come to, to kill Makima.
It was the same as the Gun Devil tried to do in the canon story.
Killing Makima was easy.
Just kill all Japanese citizens in the world.
Wipe their entire race from the world.
....
Makima shivered on her spot as she felt the death of all her lovely dogs. Her favourite breeds of human. The Japanese.
"Jin..." she whispered amid the agony.
She needed him.
"Save me,"
A tear, no, black liquid fell from her eyes.
The Darkness Devil watched mercilessly as Makima remained kneeling in front of it.
After a while, it turned its head towards the sky, looking at the sun that was surely making a descent. Although it needed a few hours, the sun would set in Japan.
And in the night, that was when Makima would die.
As the earth rotated in space, it was like a clock turning.
A clock that would tell the exact death time of Makima.
The Darkness Devil disregarded Makima's main body completely since she wouldn't die anyways. So after the effect of the sword receded and Makima could finally bear through the pain, she acted out of instinct.
It was not a plan.
Far from it.
It was the final struggle of a dying animal.
"Princi, switch with me," she said.
Her body collapsed and the Spider Devil took her place while Makima took hers.
As the switch took place, the Spider Devil stared face to face with the Darkness Devil.
She exploded in darkness under the gaze.
Now the Darkness Devil stood alone amid the quiet street. It did not try to chase after Makima. It could teleport to anywhere where shadows are. And since it stabbed her with the sword, she was marked.
It knew exactly where she was even now. It could teleport from her shadow anytime.
It just stood there.
Waiting.
A primordial in the flesh.
Afraid of nothing.
Not even death itself.
Makima had nowhere to run.
