One day in August 1996, Brooke Weber went to Gary Carl Simmons' house in Moss Point with his friend Jeffrey Albertson to talk about a drug deal. But what they didn't know was that Simmons was a butcher by profession, but he was a murderous beast hidden in his heart.
As soon as he entered the house, everything turned upside down. Simmons shot and killed Jeffrey, and Brooke was forced into a dark metal box only a few feet high.
Brooke, trapped in the box, heard the sound of Simmons dismembering her friend. Simmons kept her in the box for two days, sexually assaulting and torturing her.
When the perpetrator fell asleep, she used all her courage to open the lock on the box. She fled the house naked, ran to a nearby boatyard, and screamed for help. If it hadn't been for her courageous action, she, like Jeffrey, would have disappeared forever.

Gary Carl Simmons was sentenced to death in 1997. After a 16-year legal battle, Simmons was executed on July 10, 2012.
