Chapter 48 - Chapter 50

A crimson figure darted back and forth across the vast grassland, slicing through the air with a howling wind.

After an unknown amount of time, the red figure finally halted, revealing a person wrapped in a red cloak—none other than Lu Yi!

"Not bad!" Lu Yi laughed as he floated in the air.

After multiple rounds of flight, Lu Yi felt no discomfort at all, and none of the magical enhancements showed any issues.

Aside from the automatic equipment–switching magic circle and another special formation, Lu Yi had just finished testing every magic array on his equipment—and indeed, none of them had the slightest problem.

"Light Guardian, Nature's Strength, Malice Detection, Auto-Clean, Healing Aura, Thorn Ring, Sensory Shield—these seven formations are working perfectly."

Lu Yi was satisfied—barely. With these seven arrays, he could save a great deal of time.

After confirming that everything worked properly, Lu Yi stopped flying and instantly gave the command to retract his equipment. The moment the order left his lips, the gear on his body dissolved into starlight and streamed toward his neck, finally forming a necklace engraved with an "S."

This was the final magic array—

A transmutation array, which allowed all of his equipment to transform into a necklace for easy carrying.

You couldn't expect Lu Yi to learn Superman's trick—stuffing his suit inside his body, covering it with loose clothes, and stripping down to transform when necessary, right? Of course not.

Superman's outfit was amazing—

It never wrinkled, it was incredibly durable—but totally unnecessary for Lu Yi!

So he simply created this miraculous magic formation instead.

"Master, someone is here to see you!" Just as Lu Yi finished putting his equipment away—and before he even landed—Yuriko's figure appeared at the far end of the grassland, her voice drifting toward him.

She spoke in a normal tone, but Lu Yi's hearing was extraordinary—he could hear ants crawling miles away. Naturally, Yuriko's voice reached him loud and clear.

Lu Yi flashed to Yuriko in an instant.

"Who is it?"

"A one-eyed Black man. He calls himself Nick Fury."

"Him? Why are you late? Bring him in."

Hearing this, Yuriko turned and headed toward the entrance to fetch him, while Lu Yi remained where he was, waiting for Fury's arrival.

She didn't keep him waiting long. Soon, she brought the one-eyed Black man she mentioned—Nick Fury.

Lu Yi wasn't sure if Yuriko had hurried too much, but Fury looked slightly winded.

"What's wrong? Too much office work? Can't even handle a little exercise? Do you need a break?"

"No need." Fury rejected the offer, his tone serious. "I'm here to discuss something important with you."

"Business?"

"First of all, thousands of soldiers and four generals died. This incident involves many people. While the matter has been settled, opposition from the U.S. military and political circles is only growing stronger."

"Just as expected. So you're here to speak for them?"

"Half."

After a short pause, Fury continued, "They want me to deliver a message."

"What message?"

"They want you to accept S.H.I.E.L.D.'s supervision and promise not to use your abilities again. Otherwise, they'll take necessary measures."

Fury didn't want to say any of this—but he had to. It wasn't just the U.S. government's will, but also that of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s superiors—the World Security Council.

Lu Yi's recent slaughter had shaken them deeply. They didn't want to imagine their military, their generals, or even their commander-in-chief being killed by Lu Yi one day.

So Fury had come in person—partly to deliver the ultimatum, partly to de-escalate tension.

He understood the Council's urgency, the military's fears, the political anxiety—he even understood them personally, though he believed this entire process should be gradual, not forced.

He had no idea what the Council was plotting. He needed time—time he could only gain by coming here himself.

"You actually dare deliver this message personally? Aren't you afraid I'll kill you on the spot?"

Afraid?

Of course he was afraid!

But it didn't matter—he still had to come.

He wasn't powerful, but he had confidence he wouldn't die. Natasha and Coulson were helping Lu Yi search for something—Lu Yi wouldn't kill him now.

Fury thought all this, though he was smart enough not to say it aloud. "I trust you have your reasons," he replied instead.

"Your reasons are fake, but they sound nice," Lu Yi said. "Don't worry—I won't kill you. They need you to deliver messages, and so do I."

Fury had been tense, but hearing Lu Yi's assurance, he visibly relaxed.

"Tell them I am a kind and humble man. Everything I've done—they forced me into it."

Still kind? Humble?

"Sure, maybe you used to be humble—but not anymore," Fury thought to himself.

The man standing before him was not the same Lu Yi from before. The low-profile Lu Yi he knew was long dead.

This Lu Yi drew attention wherever he went.

So no—don't pretend to be the old Lu Yi.
