Chapter 40 - Chapter 42

Lu Yi had driven the fallen angel possessing the Ghost Rider back into Hell, and the Ghost Rider's original appearance finally resurfaced, revealing the somewhat familiar face beneath the flames.

Johnny Blaze!

That was the Ghost Rider's real name. He also had a nickname—"Blaze the Daredevil." He was a very well-known motorcycle stunt performer here. Throughout his life, he had attempted suicide countless times, but due to his unique constitution, not only did he fail to die, he instead gained his current fame.

"Heh… heh…"

But now, the once-famous Johnny Blaze looked nothing like the vibrant legend he used to be. He lay there like a fish thrown onto the shore—gasping, eyes wide open.

Everything that had just happened left him drained, as if he'd been strangled by a pack of wolf-like women for three days and three nights.

"Thank… you… for saving me!" Johnny Blaze paused, struggling to force the words out.

Johnny Blaze had always resisted the fallen angel's power within him. To him, it was a curse—something that prevented him from living a normal life.

"No need to thank me. Just lend me one thing," Lu Yi said calmly, raising an eyebrow.

"W-what… thing? As long as… I have it… I'll lend it to you…"

"Don't worry. You definitely have it."

After speaking, Lu Yi flicked his hand. A bullet tip appeared automatically between his fingers, pinched effortlessly between two fingertips.

Swish!

With a slight twist of his wrist, the bullet flew from his fingers—launched faster than an actual fired round—straight toward Johnny Blaze.

Blaze never imagined such a thing would happen. Instinctively, he tried to raise his hand to block it.

But how could his speed ever compare to a bullet's? The moment his arm moved, the bullet had already struck his forehead, leaving behind a horrifying, bloody hole.

"This is what I want to borrow—your life. Let me borrow it for a while," Lu Yi said to the barely conscious Johnny Blaze.

"Why did you kill him?" Coulson frowned at Lu Yi, unable to stop himself from questioning the man's actions.

"You have an objection?" Lu Yi rolled his eyes and gave Coulson a sideways glance.

Before Coulson could speak, Natasha cut in first. "No, absolutely not!"

Natasha had been watching Lu Yi closely from the beginning. She always felt something was off about him. Beneath his calm exterior, she sensed secrets—dangerous ones.

And right now, she felt provoking Lu Yi was a terrible idea.

"Really?"

"Really!" Natasha emphasized, kicking Coulson's leg to signal him.

"No problem at all!" Coulson blurted out instantly, regaining his composure.

Lu Yi said nothing more. He simply turned to look at Johnny Blaze's "corpse."

And indeed, after some time, Blaze's body displayed unexpected yet reasonable changes.

Despite the extremely slow rate, the bullet hole in his forehead was beginning to show signs of closing.

"Of course. Even though the fallen angel inside him is gone, remnants of its power remain. Hellfire is still burning inside him."

The previous Ghost Rider was the same. Even now, he could still transform once more—because some of the fallen angel's power still lingered.

"I just don't know whether those remnants can bring him back to life…"

Before Lu Yi could finish, the sky was suddenly swallowed by thick, roiling clouds. A heavy thunderclap exploded overhead.

"How did the weather change so suddenly?" Yuriko asked in confusion.

"It's definitely not just the weather. Weather doesn't shift that fast. Someone must be controlling it," Natasha said with a grim expression.

After speaking, she glanced at Lu Yi—and noticed his wary expression was even more serious than her own.

A chill shot down her spine. What sort of being could make Lu Yi look like this?

As she pondered, a sudden crack of thunder burst across the sky—and a vision that had only been in her mind appeared before all of them. Except for Lu Yi, no one else realized anything had changed.

And when Natasha saw the figure clearly, she realized it wasn't a green-skinned, fanged monster—but an unremarkable elderly man with white hair.

The old man wore a gentle, kindly smile as he walked toward them, like a friendly neighbor taking an afternoon stroll.

But this was a military base, not a backyard. There was no "neighbor old man" who should be here. Something was very wrong.

"Don't bother being on guard. It's useless. The person in front of you is anything but ordinary," Lu Yi said, not even glancing at the tense Coulson and Natasha beside him.

Almost as if to confirm Lu Yi's words, another bolt of lightning split the sky, illuminating the old man's face—revealing another visage layered beneath.

Pale skin. Blood-red, wicked eyes. Razor-sharp fangs. A cruel smile.

Every demonic feature concentrated into one horrifying face—

A devil's face.

And a single sentence surfaced in everyone's mind.
