Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

I spent my second day off doing magic research for the first time in a while. My teaching life wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but magic research is still the best.

This is my second week as a temporary teacher. Today is practical training for Class B.

"...Haaa, haaa. Damn it!"

"I understand the desire to land a direct hit, but when facing an opponent you can't do that against, you need to devise more ways to land attacks."

"Tch..."

"However, your magic casting speed and accuracy have undoubtedly increased, albeit slightly, compared to last week. You may have been doing extra practice just to hit me, but I recommend you continue."

"........."

Basically, practical training involves me demonstrating magic that is useful in battles against monsters or other people, and the students practicing by hitting moving targets or me. I also teach them how to protect themselves when encountering dangerous threats.

If there's danger, escaping immediately is also important. Knights may sometimes have to fight with their lives, but in other cases, it's important to accurately assess your own abilities and make the decision to retreat when you judge it impossible.

Then, I give them assignments and have them work on them. Since the time it takes to solve assignments varies individually, students who finish early are either studying on their own, sparring with each other, or if they wish, I will be their sparring partner. Sparring between students is only possible because of this practice field where no one gets injured.

"But you do this every time. I'll acknowledge your perseverance."

"...I will definitely land a blow on you someday, you old man teacher."

The one kneeling on the practice field is Gale, who was so stubborn in the first lesson.

He has participated in all subsequent practical training classes, quickly completed the given assignments, and always challenges me to a sparring match. Even though I'm going easy on him, there's still feedback from the pain of magic, and he really does work hard.

He must have a talent for magic. Even though only a week has passed, he's already modifying his movements and tactics.

I was a little curious why Gale wasn't in Class S, so I asked Anon about it. Apparently, he scored very high in practical skills but did poorly in academics. ...This guy was slacking off in his academic classes!

"Still, can't you do something about that way of speaking? Well, it's fine for me, but don't use it with other teachers."

Ever since I was reincarnated in this world, for some reason, only the common language of this world is translated into Japanese when I hear it.

"Old man teacher" was something yankees in my generation used, but are young people using it now? I want to research how this translation ability works someday.

For now, deciding to call him "teacher" instead of "brat," I've started calling him by his name. Also, he now bows before sparring.

"Hmph, your way of speaking to nobles is the worst, but I'll admit you have skill. However, many of the other teachers have no real ability. It would be better to learn from a private tutor hired at home. Their classes are not worth listening to. Coming to the historic Bounce National Academy of Magic, I was greatly disappointed when I first took a class."

"I'll return the favor regarding your manners of speaking directly to you, Gale... However, the fact that teachers who are supposed to teach lack the actual ability is a problem with the academy. I will make a suggestion to the headmaster about this as well."

"At least fire the teachers of Basic Magic and Magical Pharmacology. They lack too much actual magical ability and knowledge. Especially in Magical Pharmacology, if you take classes as that teacher says, an accident will happen someday."

"...Thank you for the information. The academy will investigate."

Like Cyril, Gale seems to have considerable dissatisfaction with the teachers. The teacher of Basic Magic was Mr. Marti, who ignored Meril's SOS. It seems he's truly disqualified as a teacher.

And then there's Magical Pharmacology... Magical Pharmacology is a class where you mix and refine various potions. In this other world, you can create potions imbued with magical power, such as healing potions and antidote potions. Many students at the magic academy plan to pursue this path in the future.

Potions can be dangerous if mishandled, leading to accidents. Given that, you should need a difficult national qualification to become a teacher, but why is that person incompetent?

"G-Gale-sama!"

"Are you alright!"

"It's fine, let's go."

Hazeln and Kunell, his entourage, arrived, and Gale left the practice field with them.

"Gale-sama, let's stop getting involved with that temporary teacher!"

"There are rumors that he expelled the eldest son of the Marquis of Marceleno. We'll be expelled too someday!"

I could hear their voices as they walked away. If you're going to gossip, I wish you'd do it from a little further away.

"...Hmph. If I were to be expelled for my manners, I would have been expelled on the first day. That old man teacher wouldn't use such methods unless others interfered. The eldest son of the marquis family was caught doing malicious games using commoners."

It seems Gale is starting to understand me. He's a smart kid, except for his quick temper.

...Or rather, I'm starting to think that the reason for the class's breakdown isn't the students' fault, but the teachers'. Of course, if the teachers at the academy you joined with high hopes are less capable than a private tutor, or almost the same as yourself, you lose the motivation to attend classes.

If you lose the motivation to attend classes, you start doing other things or chatting. Other students imitate that, and more students sympathize with them, leading to a vicious cycle, and the situation becomes what it was when I arrived. And that spreads to other classes.

Hmm, it seems I'll need information about the teachers at this academy as well. I have one method, but it seems too difficult. I also know someone who is more suitable for that field than I am. I'll consult with Anon.
