Chapter 1 - Lela the Brave

The inside of the hut stank of blood and death, the dim interior seemed to slightly diminish the gruesome site with in. Lela, a guardswoman of the town had been called to check on a disturbance that had happened inside the hut. By the time she got there, it oppressively silent, not even the sounds of birds or insects were chirping. When walked in, that's when the stench hit her.

As she looked around, she saw that this had been a site of summoning, in particular an abyssal creature, perhaps even a demon. She didn't need magic detection to know that the summoned creature was still around. She saw the trail of carnage leading out to the other end of the hut. It was time to hunt down this creature and send it back to where it belonged.

I scratched my head trying to figure out what direction I wanted to take this story. I had this idea for this story for a very long time and even though I wasn't the best writer, I thought it would be cool to try something different.

"Honey, are you coming to bed?" Asked my husband sleepily. I looked at the clock and saw it was just after midnight.

"Crap! Yeah, I'm coming to bed."

I turned off my computer and walked down the hall into our bedroom. My husband, Daniel, was getting under the covers while I changed in to my PJs. Tomorrow was Wednesday, two more days till the weekend and I couldn't wait.

I slid into bed, being very careful not to disturb the cat in the middle.

"Good night, my love," I said gently to my husband kissing his shoulder.

"Shawn, could you down to Dr Ahd's pod? She needs to speak to you."

"Oh, sure, I'll be right there."

I put my phone on not ready and took off my headset. It was puzzling why Dr Ahd wanted to see me, although maybe it's about the cake I promised to make for her nurse, Sera who was getting ready to retire. I got up and followed her down the hall, passing pregnant women waiting to be seen. Working at an OBGYN, this made for a familiar site.

Instead of going into Dr Ahd's office, Sera showed me into one of the patient rooms and told me the doctor would be with me shortly. Suddenly, it dawned on me that it had been two months since my endometrial biopsy and no one had said anything about the results. All of a sudden, I had a sinking feeling this was not about cake.
