Chapter 76 - My Kind of Woman (Vesper’s POV)

I grew up listening to legends and myths. My clan believed deeply in magic, wisdom, and power—but the story that captured me most was that of Eriu, the Goddess of Abundance. They said she sacrificed herself for this world, vowed to return, and would one day choose a bestial mate to rule beside her.

Ages passed. She never returned, and the world forgot her.

I never did.

There was never a single day I didn't imagine being the beast she would choose. I studied every scrap of lore, hunted every rumor, learned every hidden truth. If I wanted to rule this world, I had to find her—and make her choose me.

When I rose as ruler of my clan, I put my plan into motion. I knew exactly who to seek for answers: Vera, Goddess of Debauchery—Eriu's envious counterpart.

She was easy to manipulate. All I had to do was revel her presence, drown her in desire, and indulge her foolish games. Let them call me corrupt, wicked, vile—I didn't care. Power demands sacrifice, and I was willing to pay any price to raise my clan to the top.

Vera, vain and loud-mouthed, could never resist boasting. She bragged about what she had done to Eriu's spirit, how she had fractured her return. But beneath her arrogance, I saw fear. The more uneasy she became, the more certain I was: Eriu's return was near.

Then the blue moon appeared.

The rare moon tied to the Goddess of Abundance.

I nearly trembled with excitement.

Soon after, I heard whispers of a strange girl found in the forbidden jungle of Juno. I rushed there—only to learn Vera had already reached her and tried to erase her.

I wasn't surprised. If Eriu returned in a weak vessel, Vera would crush her easily.

So imagine my fury when I learned the girl survived.

I found her by the sea. Watched her from the shadows. The longer I observed her, the more she fascinated me. When I saw her suffering, I thought it was the perfect chance to claim her.

I assumed she would be like other girls—easily tempted.

I was wrong.

She rejected me without hesitation. She was careful, intelligent, guarded. But what struck me most was this: she was not of this world, and something immense lived inside her.

After that, every encounter only deepened my interest.

When I saw her destroy the bats with her power, I was stunned. What she wielded was both destruction and salvation—a force that could kneel the world.

The problem was her will. She wasn't something to be taken.

So I adjusted my plan.

I would earn her trust.

Everything I did became deliberate. Every word measured. Every move patient.

I knew she had mated with kings, and honestly, I didn't care. She could have as many as she wanted—as long as I ruled beside her. Still, there were moments she unsettled me. Her power wasn't just force—it was influence. She changed people. She made even me question my path.

Then, after all my waiting, all my planning, the perfect opening appeared.

And I took it.

Now she lies beside me, breathing softly, lost in sleep.

"Stupid dog," I murmur, stroking her hair, tracing her cheek with my fingers. "You and all those kings lost your chance."

I watch her face soften in dreams. "That's right, Sienna. I'll make you forget every wound they gave you. I'll give you a life of nothing but bliss."

I have loved Eriu since the moment I heard her story. I always knew my purpose was to stand beside her. When she wakes, I will show her what our bond can become.

Then a sultry, venomous voice slithered through the air.

"I knew you'd be useful to me," Vera purred. "You are the best among my followers."

"Did you bring her to me as a gift, my dear Vesper?"

"Stay away," I snapped.

She froze, shock flickering in her eyes. "Let me go, Vesper!"

"Oh? Did you forget?" I smiled coldly. "You agreed to fall under my control in exchange for pleasure. Your obsession with lust trapped you perfectly."

Her power no longer worked on me—especially now that it was weakening. The more Sienna spread Eriu's name, the weaker Vera became.

"Vesper!" she shrieked. "You promised loyalty!"

"Wrong," I said quietly. "My loyalty has always been mine. I used you. Now leave."

"You'll regret choosing that worthless vessel!" she screamed before vanishing.

Sienna didn't wake through any of it.

When she did stir later, all she did was cry.

That wolf shattered her. But pain comes easily to her—abundance magnifies everything, even heartbreak.

I sit beside her, pulling her gently into my arms.

Poor girl. How does she endure carrying so much?

But she doesn't have to anymore.

I will hold her. Protect her. Shape her future.

And one day soon—

She will only call my name.
