Chapter 43 - chapter

A fracture appeared in the Supreme Sovereign Realm.

Not a crack in space. Not a tear in time.

A contradiction.

Chang Li Yao felt it immediately.

Something within the lower layers of existence had failed to comply with inevitability.

That was impossible.

And yet… it existed.

He opened his eyes.

Across infinite planes below him, reality flickered. A single mortal life insignificant in scale, irrelevant in weight had done the unthinkable.

It had refused its ending.

Not survived.

Refused.

That distinction echoed upward through layers of existence like a bell striking the void.

Chang Li Yao's gaze descended without movement. Worlds stacked upon worlds parted before his attention, not because he forced them, but because nothing could remain unobserved under his awareness.

There.

A boy. Kneeling in the ruins of a broken continent. Blood on his hands. Fate itself unraveling around him like burned thread.

He should have died.

Every law said so.

Every probability confirmed it.

Every timeline agreed.

And yet the boy stood inside the contradiction and whispered:

"I choose… again."

The universe shuddered.

Not from power.

From disagreement.

For the first time in what could be called eternity, something in the lower realms did not align with Chang Li Yao's silent structure of inevitability.

He tilted his head slightly.

Interest.

A concept so ancient it almost felt foreign.

"You should not exist beyond your end," he said not aloud, but across reality itself.

The boy froze.

Not in fear.

In awareness.

Because now he had been seen.

And being seen by the Supreme Sovereign was not observation.

It was definition.

The boy's body trembled as reality attempted to correct itself around him. Space rewrote his injuries. Time tried to pull him backward. Cause and effect argued violently over his existence.

But still

"I refuse," the boy said again.

That single refusal shattered a local law of reality.

A small one.

But real.

Chang Li Yao's expression did not change, but the Supreme Sovereign Realm shifted for the first time since its formation.

Not expansion.

Not destruction.

Recognition.

"So that is what you are," he murmured.

An anomaly that did not break fate through strength…

…but through rejection.

Below him, civilizations that had never even known his name suddenly paused mid-action. Gods halted mid-prayer. Entire systems of belief flickered as if something fundamental had blinked.

Because for the first time, inevitability had been questioned.

Chang Li Yao rose from his stillness.

Not moving through space.

Redefining where space began.

"If refusal exists," he said softly, "then inevitability is not absolute."

The Supreme Sovereign Realm responded instantly, trying to correct the implication.

But it could not.

Because correction itself required agreement.

And agreement had just been denied.

For the first time, a new layer began to form beyond his realm.

Not above.

Not below.

Adjacent.

A place where outcomes were not enforced… only suggested.

Chang Li Yao looked at it for a long moment.

Then he smiled properly this time.

Not kindness.

Not cruelty.

Curiosity sharpened into purpose.

"Show me," he said to the boy who should not exist.

And the multiverse, for the first time since its beginning…

hesitated before obeying.
