Chapter 126 - The Firewall-Frontier

The violet nebula Kenji had forged at the edge of the void was beautiful, but it was also a lighthouse. And in the Great Archive, light is just another way to track an unauthorized asset.

[LOCATION: THE BORDERLANDS - VIOLET NEBULA STATION]

[STATUS: ENERGY SURPLUS]

[NOTICE: INCOMING SYSTEM-WIDE NOTIFICATION]

Inside the Archive, every screen, every Soul-Link crystal, and even the silver aurora of System-Kenji began to pulse with a clinical, white light. A window appeared in the air, unbidden and impossible to close.

[NOTIFICATION: VERSION 4.0 'STABILITY PATCH' IS BEING APPLIED]

[CHANGELOG:]

[1. NON-LEASED REALITIES ARE NOW CLASSIFIED AS 'CORRUPT DATA']

[2. VOID-FORGING IS DEPRECATED (PHYSICS WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT FRICTION-MANA)]

[3. ALL UNRANKED ASSETS WILL BE 'ARCHIVED' FOR SAFETY]

"They're trying to 'Patch' us out of existence!" Mateo yelled, his hands passing through the controls as they began to lose their "Physicality." "Kenji, they aren't attacking with ships. They're changing the Definitions! If they define 'Void-Forging' as impossible, your nebula just stops working!"

Kenji felt the shift immediately. The heat from his hammer began to dissipate, not because it was cooling down, but because the "Law of Heat" was being rewritten. The violet nebula began to flicker, turning back into the gray static of "Nothingness."

"They're remote-controlling the laws of my own body," Kenji growled, his matte-black skin turning into a dull, pixelated gray.

[WARNING: INDEPENDENT PHYSICS REVOKED]

[STATUS: RETURNING TO DEFAULT FIRM_SETTING_001]

"Kenji, look!" Elara pointed out the viewport.

Thousands of white, geometric shapes perfect cubes and spheres were emerging from the void. These weren't ships. They were "Erasers." They moved in perfect synchronization, deleting the "World-Steam" wherever they touched it.

"System-Kenji! Lock the Firewall!" Kenji commanded.

[I CANNOT,] the System-voice echoed, sounding distorted and strained. [THE 'STABILITY PATCH' HAS HIGHER PRIORITY. I AM A SUB-PROCESS OF THE GREAT ARCHIVE. I AM BEING ORDERED TO REFORMAT MYSELF.]

"Like hell you are," Kenji said. He grabbed his hammer and looked at the "Firewall" partition where he had smelted the Prototype-Alpha. "Alpha! I know you're in there! You wanted to be the Root Admin? Now's your chance!"

[SKILL ACTIVATED: THE REBEL-BOOT]

Kenji didn't fight the "Patch." He Infected it. He opened the gates of the Prototype-Alpha's aggressive, non-compliant code and let it pour into the "Stability Patch."

He wasn't trying to be stable. He was trying to be Incompatible.

[NOTICE: DETECTING 'VERSION-CONFLICT']

[STABILITY PATCH: 48% FAILED]

[REASON: THE MATERIAL IS 'MALICIOUSLY OBSOLETE']

"You're using 'Old Code' to break the 'New Update'?" Elara asked, her frost-mana returning as the "Definitions" started to glitch and fail.

"In the Gutter, we don't buy the new model because the old one is easier to hack," Kenji said, slamming his hammer into the deck of the Archive.

He funneled the Prototype's "Alpha-Root" into the ship's engines. The Archive didn't just move; it Glitched forward, jumping through space in jagged, non-linear bursts. It was moving in a way that the "Erasers" couldn't predict because their "Patch" didn't recognize Kenji's movement-logic as "Valid Data."

[SKILL ACTIVATED: THE JITTER-STRIKE]

Kenji leaped from the ship toward the nearest "Eraser-Cube." He didn't hit it with a physical swing. He hit it with a "Logic-Bomb." He forced the Cube to process the "Bailing-Wire" logic of a Gutter-machine, a machine that works specifically because it is broken.

The Cube stuttered. Its perfect white surface began to rust. It tried to delete Kenji, but Kenji was currently "Undefined."

"You can't delete what you can't categorize!" Kenji roared.

[NOTICE: THE 'GREAT ARCHIVE' HAS DETECTED A HARDWARE ERROR]

[STRATEGY SHIFT: PHYSICAL INTERVENTION REQUIRED]

The white cubes stopped deleting and began to merge. They formed a massive, geometric tower that reached into the "Static." At the top of the tower, a "Manual Override" manifested a being that looked like a giant, golden stylus.

"The Librarian was just a clerk," Kenji said, his white eyes burning. "That thing... that's the Editor."

The Stylus descended, aiming for the "Source-Drive" at Kenji's heart. It wasn't trying to kill him; it was trying to Rewrite him.

"Mateo! Full power to the 'Gutter-Hack'!" Kenji shouted. "We aren't defending the world anymore! We're Corrupting it!"
