Chapter 29 - Velocity Beyond Control

The arena lights flickered.

Energy readings spiked across every monitor inside the massive skyship.

Group C's battle had gone beyond standard speed parameters.

Bolt stood at the center of the cracked arena floor, lightning spiraling around him in tighter arcs than before.

Across him, Valkyren's falcon spirit hovered mid-air, wings vibrating at blinding frequency.

Mira's emerald fox circled in controlled rotation.

Toma's hawk adjusted angles from above.

No one moved.

For half a second.

Then—

The falcon vanished.

Sudden Breakpoint

"Linear Accel — Phase Two!"

The Valkyren leader slammed his gauntlet.

The falcon reappeared directly above Bolt, diving at terminal speed.

Air pressure exploded downward.

Riku reacted instantly.

"Bolt — Counter Surge!"

Lightning erupted upward like a spear.

The collision shook the entire platform.

Wind and thunder clashed violently.

But this time—

The falcon didn't bounce back.

It absorbed the impact.

Its wings began spinning like twin turbines.

"Wind Conversion Mode!" Valkyren's leader shouted.

The falcon redirected Bolt's lightning into rotational airflow, converting raw impact into speed.

Toma's eyes widened.

"He's turning defense into acceleration!"

The falcon shot forward again — now even faster.

Bolt slid back, claws scraping against fractured steel.

Team Synchronization

Mira stepped in.

"Verdant Spiral — Lock Field!"

Her fox spirit expanded its circular rotation, generating a green vortex across half the arena.

Wind currents destabilized.

The falcon's straight-line acceleration began curving.

Its trajectory bent.

Just slightly.

But enough.

"Toma!" Mira called.

"On it!"

"Vector Shift — Cross Intercept!"

The hawk spirit dove diagonally, slicing through the falcon's altered path.

Impact.

A burst of compressed wind detonated.

For the first time—

Valkyren's leader stepped back.

"…Impressive."

Something Changes

Lightning around Bolt began pulsing irregularly.

Not unstable.

Not weak.

Just… different.

The sparks weren't violet-blue anymore.

Thin streaks of darker energy flickered inside them.

Barely visible.

But present.

From the upper deck, the hooded spectator leaned forward.

"…There it is."

The second voice whispered:

"The early distortion phase."

Inside the arena—

Riku felt the shift.

The Speed Core chamber inside his gauntlet rotated slightly on its own.

He didn't command it.

It responded before he spoke.

"Bolt…"

The wolf spirit turned his head slightly.

Electricity condensed around his frame in layered patterns.

Riku inhaled sharply.

"Thunder Ignition… Overdrive."

The words felt heavier.

But the Core obeyed instantly.

The Acceleration War

Bolt launched forward.

Not in bursts.

Not zig-zagging.

Not straight.

He accelerated in waves — compressing space between movements.

Each step left afterimages of lightning.

The falcon countered with turbine spin.

Wind shockwaves collided with thunder pulses.

Green vortex currents bent the battlefield.

Redirect strikes sliced through gaps.

The arena floor cracked further.

Metal panels began detaching.

Warning systems blared.

"Energy threshold approaching critical."

Valkyren's second member launched his own Speed Core.

"Speed Core — Breakwind Crash!"

A heavy rhino-shaped spirit slammed into the battlefield, using raw impact speed rather than agility.

It charged.

Bolt twisted mid-air, barely avoiding the collision.

But the rhino's shockwave caught him from behind.

He skidded across the arena surface.

Riku's eyes sharpened.

"Bolt — Rise!"

Lightning exploded outward, stopping the slide.

But something else flickered—

For one split second—

Bolt's pupils glowed darker than lightning.

Then returned to normal.

Mira noticed.

"…Riku?"

"I'm fine."

He wasn't fully sure.

The Turning Point

Valkyren's leader smirked.

"You're strong. But your acceleration is chaotic."

He raised his gauntlet high.

"Final Pattern — Sky Break Velocity!"

The falcon ascended to the highest point of the dome.

Wind spiraled downward like a tornado funnel.

The entire arena began rotating under air pressure.

Riku gritted his teeth.

"Team formation — Now!"

Mira increased rotational output.

Toma created angled interception paths.

Bolt crouched low.

Lightning gathered intensely.

The falcon dove.

The tornado collapsed inward.

Everything converged at one point—

Center arena.

Riku shouted—

"Bolt!! Full Accel — Thunder Break!!!"

The Speed Core flared violently.

Bolt exploded upward in a spiral of condensed lightning.

Wind and thunder collided in a blinding sphere of light.

The skyship trembled.

Monitors shut down momentarily.

Then—

Silence.

Smoke drifted across the arena.

When visibility returned—

Both Bolt and the falcon stood barely upright.

Sparks flickered weakly.

The rhino spirit flickered out.

The hawk and fox slowed rotation.

The system voice echoed:

"Stability reading… evaluating…"

The entire ship held its breath.

Then—

A sharp metallic tone rang out.

"Team Valkyren — Two spirits inactive." "Group C — Three spirits active." "Victory: Group C."

The arena erupted.

International teams stared in disbelief.

Group C had just defeated Valkyren's acceleration specialists.

But Riku didn't celebrate.

He looked down at his gauntlet.

The lightning inside it pulsed once.

Dark streaks lingered for a fraction of a second.

Then disappeared.

Mira stepped beside him.

"You pushed too far."

Toma adjusted his glasses.

"…And somehow didn't lose control."

Riku exhaled slowly.

"…Yeah."

But deep inside—

Something had accelerated.

Not just his speed.

Something else.

And it wasn't slowing down.

⚡ End of Chapter 29

Next: Group C advances.

But word of Riku's "Overdrive Ignition" spreads across the ship.

Some want to challenge him.

Others want something else.

And someone… begins preparing a trap.
