After Renetta joined Luke's squad and gathered all the wounded, the medics began their treatment.
"So, how's it going?" Renetta asked Luke.
"The information on Ethan Reiss is a little different from what we received. There were no reports of that shield before."
"But it looks like Anser can block it for now."
Luke pointed to Ethan and Anser, who were fighting.
"And now I'll test the information on Bryan." Luke prepared to give the order.
[Snipers ready! Shoot Zoya Bryan now!] Luke commanded.
The snipers receiving the order immediately fired a volley of bullets at Zoya Bryan. The barrage of bullets came in rapid succession with no pause. It was impossible for anyone to dodge them.
Just when they all thought they had successfully wounded her, reality revealed a different story. All the bullets aimed at Zoya Bryan melted away before hitting her.
"Miss, I'm always amazed by your skills."
Ethan who had moved away from Anser complimented Zoya.
"This is annoying." Zoya looked annoyed.
"What's wrong, Luke?" Renetta asked.
"It's okay, I expected that."
[Snipers! Fire all missiles, don't spare a single one. Aim them all at Zoya Bryan!] Luke ordered.
[Understood].
Another round of gunfire came toward Zoya Bryan.
The first wave of bullets melted before reaching Zoya. The sniper reloaded and fired a second wave.
The second wave was still melting. Then a third. Zoya couldn't melt any more bullets and jumped back to avoid the shots.
"Damn!" Zoya grumbled.
"Good, that still fits the information." Luke clenched his fists.
Zoya Bryan was a fire-elemental mage. She could burn anything at will. But even so, a mage was still human. She had limits to her powers.
"Renetta, get ready!" Luke directed Renetta.
Renetta immediately prepared her grenades, rifle, and ammunition.
"Anser! Repel Reiss!" Anser, who had been keeping his distance from Ethan immediately leaped toward Ethan with his modified sword.
Ethan immediately blocked Anser's attack with his shield.
"You're quite formidable." Ethan grinned.
Anser continued his attacks.
"Renetta, come!"
Seeing that Zoya was no longer able to block the shots with her flames, Luke directed Renetta to attack Zoya.
"Understood." Renetta immediately ran at full speed toward Zoya.
After entering her sights, Renetta's bullets immediately shot towards Zoya. Zoya jumped back, struggling to avoid Renetta's shots.
"Uninjured personnel immediately step forward and assist Renetta!" Luke directed the personnel to help surround Zoya.
Zoya starting to panic shouted at Ethan.
"Ethan!!"
Hearing this, Ethan immediately slammed his shield against Anser. However, Anser didn't retreat. Ethan clicked his tongue and threw the stun gun he'd hidden at Anser.
Anser didn't have time to dodge and was electrocuted. Ethan immediately jumped towards the nearly surrounded Zoya and deployed his two ultrasonic shields to deflect the shots.
Renetta immediately threw two grenades at them. The explosions occurred. The nearby personnel immediately jumped back.
"Wow, that was close." Ethan grinned. He had arrived before Renetta's grenades.
"So, miss, when will your magic be available again?"
"About two minutes."
"So, do we stay or run?" As she was about to make her decision, Zoya smiled faintly.
[Report! Cracks are starting to appear in the black gate!] A sniper on watch reported.
"Shit!" Anser shouted.
"Looks like luck is on our side."
A cracking sound was heard. The black gate there began to open.
[Any other personnel around here?] Renetta asked the sniper watching from atop a tall building.
[There's no personnel visible nearby However, there appears to be a squad about thirty minutes from the gate.] The sniper observing with a modified scope, provided the information.
"Damn! Even though this district is abandoned, should it really be completely ignored? If this district is destroyed the capital will be destroyed as well." Anser clicked his tongue.
"Raise the warning alarm. Everyone prepare!" Luke took command.
The personnel exposed to tear gas had recovered. Because the world had changed, research in technology had advanced. A medicine that used to take a day or three days to cure a fever now only takes an hour or even less if one's immune system is strong.
While the troops were distracted by the gate, Zoya and Ethan fled.
"Renetta! You and your squad go after them! Anser and I will take the gate."
Renetta nodded and commanded her squad to follow.
"Alpha! Zeta! Take position! Since our opponents are undead that can only be destroyed by fire, some will take the Flamethrowers that are in the fleet! The rest will hold it here!"
"Execute quickly!"
"Yes, sir!"
The team immediately split into two. Five people from each squad ran as fast as they could toward the fleet, which resembled a giant box truck parked some distance away.
The rest formed a defensive formation and readied their rifles. The zombies and living skeletons began to run toward them.
"Shoot!" Everyone started shooting at the undead.
Although the undead were shot down it didn't wipe them out. Every zombie and skeleton that was hit continuously got back up without significant damage.
"Front three, throw grenades!"
But even so, they didn't stop their attacks. At least they could slow the undead's advance until adequate weapons arrived.
Meanwhile, Renetta and her squad,
pursuing Ethan and Zoya, were also in a difficult situation.
Zoya's magic had returned, and she could shoot fire at him and his team. Ethan also had more hidden weapons. Ethan repeatedly threw tear gas at them. The white smoke that spread out obscured their vision.
Luckily, she and her team were wearing gas masks. Although their visibility was impaired, at least they didn't suffer any damage.
Then the unexpected happened. Ethan threw a gas bomb that amplified the explosive power and Zoya fired fire at him.
A massive explosion ensued. Part of the street caught fire, spreading to one of the buildings.
"Captain! There are several civilians visible inside the building."
"Shit! Everyone focus on evacuation and call the fire department now!"
