Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Dead

In the morning, past seven o'clock, Jiang Hou sat at the dining table slowly eating breakfast.

Today's breakfast was porridge with steamed buns and a small dish of side vegetables.

However, Jiang Hou seemed a bit cautious in his actions, because earlier, while washing his face and rinsing his mouth, he accidentally used too much force and broke his toothbrush.

A strength attribute nearing 30 points, equivalent to three times that of an ordinary person, grip strength roughly between 150 to 200 kilograms, wasn't too exaggerated.

But this power belonged to a sudden surge, with no time to get accustomed, so Jiang Hou tended to use too much force if he wasn't careful, breaking little things here and there.

Across from Jiang Hou, Qin Siyu was tearing her steamed bun into little pieces as she spoke.

"Jiang Hou, I've already packed lunch for you, don't forget to take it with you when you leave."

"Okay." Jiang Hou nodded.

"Alright, I'm full. Remember to tidy up later." The girl stuffed the last small piece of bun into her mouth, then clapped her small hands and stood up.

Today, the girl wore a white long-sleeved shirt, paired with a red checkered skirt that covered her knees, with black stockings underneath, accentuating her curves at 1.65 meters.

Her hair was tied into a loose ponytail with a white bow, with a few white ribbons hanging down, light and graceful.

The bangs on her forehead were also meticulously styled, with the sides draping by her ears and the middle covering her eyebrows, making her already pretty face appear even more delicate and beautiful.

Compared to Qin Siyu's girl's school uniform, Jiang Hou's boy's uniform seemed rather plain.

Straight black trousers, a white shirt on top, not ugly, but only moderate, not as flattering as the girls' uniforms.

Jiang Hou sighed a bit, "Our Siyu is getting prettier, so virtuous too, I wonder which lucky guy will marry you a few years from now."

The girl didn't respond to Jiang Hou's praise, but the slight upward curve of her lips showed she was in a good mood.

"Huh!"

As Qin Siyu was about to turn and leave, she suddenly uttered a small sound of surprise, turning back to look at Jiang Hou's face.

Jiang Hou, who was being stared at, touched his cheek, somewhat puzzled, "What's wrong, didn't I wash my face clean?"

The girl found it odd, "Jiang Hou, I noticed the pimples on your face seem gone, your skin looks a bit lighter, much better than before."

"Oh, it should be because I've been going to bed early recently." Jiang Hou replied expressionlessly, casually finding an excuse.

"Really."

The girl was a bit skeptical, "I also go to bed and get up early every day, why don't I see such a big change?"

Jiang Hou was speechless, "…You play with your phone until eleven or twelve every night. Although you get up early, that's only considered getting up early."

"Alright, let's not talk about this."

To avoid Jiang Hou's lecturing, the girl swiftly shifted the topic, "Do you want to go get your hair cut? This messy look is kind of gloomy, not sunny at all."

Having not cut his hair for more than two months, Jiang Hou's hair already covered his ears, and the messy bangs in front even covered half his eyes.

This hairstyle is quite common in high school, usually among those who perform well academically but aren't lively and are a bit introverted.

"No, it's a waste of money, and why do I need to be so sunny, I'm not looking for a girlfriend." Jiang Hou promptly refused.

Right now, he only wanted to quietly study Extraordinary Power and wasn't interested in anything else, and a sudden big change would easily attract attention, both at home and at school.

"Tch~ not bothered with you."

Seeing Jiang Hou didn't want a haircut, Qin Siyu couldn't do anything about it and turned back to her room.

In this world, the country is strong, with well-developed progress, so the domestic educational atmosphere is relatively relaxed, unlike in Jiang Hou's past life where it was very competitive.

The same goes for high school, with no morning or evening study sessions, classes start at eight in the morning, and school is over by four-thirty in the afternoon.

After school, students who wish to engage in activities can participate in events or gather to form interest clubs, or they can go home to continue studying or play games.

High school graduates with good grades go to university, while those with poorer grades choose to attend vocational schools to learn a specialized skill for the future.

Because of the societal atmosphere, going to a vocational school isn't looked down upon.

Moreover, these schools have collaboration agreements with local major companies and factories, so as long as students aren't too foolish, they can be employed in their field of study upon graduation.

And because sixteen is considered adulthood in this country, a few high schoolers who don't want to study can choose to find work directly after graduation.

In a way, it's cutting out a few years of detours.

As Jiang Hou was lost in these thoughts, the morning news being broadcast on the living room TV suddenly caught his attention.

"In the early hours last night, a heinous home invasion murder occurred in our city's Riverfront Villa District."

"Around one o'clock in the morning, Zhang, armed with a sharp weapon, entered the victim Li's home and brutally assaulted the family, resulting in three deaths and one injury."

"At the first instance of the crime, law enforcement officers quickly arrived at the scene, surrounding Zhang, who was attempting to flee."

"During the arrest, because Zhang resisted and wielded a dangerous weapon, officers decisively shot him after firing warning shots, subduing him."

"Although vital areas were avoided, Zhang bled to death before reaching the hospital due to a bullet hitting an artery in his thigh."

"Additionally, in Zhang's resistance, four brave law enforcement officers suffered varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving hospital treatment."

"Preliminary investigations indicate the crime originated from a month ago when Li injured Zhang's father and refused to pay for medical and other compensatory fees."

"This matter greatly impacted Zhang, who was only nineteen, leading to an uncontrolled impulse resulting in this incident."

"Thus, Nannan advises the general public to stay calm in face of adversities, to prevent harming themselves, and their families due to impulsive actions..."

This news sounded like an ordinary home invasion murder case, but what caught Jiang Hou's attention was one particular shot.

In the image, the villa's gate was wide open, with one door lying on the ground, having been slashed diagonally in half.

The cut on the iron gate was smooth and straight, suggesting that the weapon used to slice through the gate was incredibly sharp, indescribably sharp.

Or rather, under normal circumstances, no such sharp Divine Weapon should exist in this world, unless... it was an Extraordinary Weapon from another world.

Upon this thought, Jiang Hou's expression became slightly solemn.

Indeed, he wasn't the only one to have had a mystical encounter last night; others had also entered that dangerous world, acquiring Extraordinary Power.

However, based on appearances, this person seemed to have acquired a powerful weapon.

And this person named Zhang was very impulsive, harboring murderous intent at the first opportunity after acquiring Extraordinary Power, and went to settle scores with his enemy Li's family.

Even under the world's suppression, Zhang, endowed with Extraordinary Power, not only killed his enemy but also injured four law enforcement officers armed with firearms before being shot dead.

However, Jiang Hou speculated that before seeking revenge, Zhang might not have discovered that this world suppressed supernatural powers, which is why he was surrounded by the enforcement officers.

Otherwise, he would have opted to escape at the first sign of disadvantage.

"Jiang Hou, you're still eating; it's already half-past seven."

"I'll finish soon, Siyu, you go ahead, don't wait for me." Jiang Hou snapped out of it, waving to the girl with the pink backpack.

The two, although both in their third year of high school, attended different schools.

However, in Yidu City, the styles of all public school uniforms are the same, the difference being only in the school badge on the left chest, so the two's school uniform styles are quite similar.
