Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: No Reason Not to Use It

Following Du Yun for a day, Jiang Cheng found the work truly not difficult.

She only needed to monitor the weighing after sorting, register the items in each category, and register again when selling those items.

Initially, Du Yun was a bit worried that Jiang Cheng wouldn't do well, since Jiang Cheng was just someone from the countryside and reportedly hadn't even attended school.

If Jiang Cheng hadn't proven she was literate by reading a newspaper out loud to her, Du Yun wouldn't have let Jiang Cheng take over the job.

Actually, Du Yun had her own considerations. After all, she was a junior high school graduate, and Jiang Cheng, who hadn't even finished elementary school, couldn't take her job away.

Around 2 PM, Sister Wang, who worked with Du Yun on the records, got off work.

Du Yun cheerfully saw Sister Wang off without a word of complaint, leading Jiang Cheng to realize that Sister Wang had some connections.

At 4 PM, Du Yun was also getting ready to leave work.

The two of them candidly went back together.

"My belly's been a bit tight these days, probably due anytime now. Can you come by yourself tomorrow?"

Jiang Cheng supported Du Yun, nodding.

"Sister, don't worry, I definitely won't let you down."

With one sentence, Du Yun felt completely at ease, thinking she had chosen the right person.

At this moment, the courtyard was particularly lively.

Lin Jiaojiao stood at the door of the Shen Family, arrogant like a victorious rooster.

"Director Zhang, Jiang Cheng must be hiding! She has no job, so what is she doing out all day not coming back!"

"She just wants to avoid the street inspection. We'll wait here for her. I don't believe she won't come back. By then, you must send her back to the countryside."

With a loud voice, Lin Jiaojiao watched the front entrance with a smug expression, as if she could see Jiang Cheng being driven away, crying, and begging her.

Last night, with He Dan's reminder, Lin Jiaojiao realized that Jiang Cheng didn't have a job and couldn't stay in the city at all.

So today, while accompanying He Dan to register her residence, Lin Jiaojiao also reported Jiang Cheng.

The other members of the Lin Family had no objections.

They surprisingly agreed to teach Jiang Cheng a lesson.

Lin's mother felt that if Jiang Cheng realized her mistake, she could let her return to the Lin Family.

Yesterday and this morning's meals really made Lin's mother uncomfortable and she didn't want to do anymore.

The manager of the courtyard, Uncle Sun, didn't like Lin Jiaojiao's noisy clamoring; whatever issues there were, couldn't they talk to him first?

Uncle Sun walked towards Director Zhang, whose face didn't look too good.

"Director Zhang, Jiang Cheng was kicked out by the Lin Family yesterday, it was late with no transport, and as a young lady, she couldn't easily walk back at night. It wasn't intentional overstaying."

Uncle Sun's words eased Director Zhang's expression a bit.

Actually, many people overstayed for a few days or even half a month, but only Lin Jiaojiao insisted on making it known to all.

There was competition among the streets, and since this matter was blown up, as a street director, he had to show due attitude, so he came.

However, he didn't like this Jiang Cheng or the Lin Family at all.

"Not at all, Jiang Cheng rented a room, how is that not intentional overstaying?"

Lin Jiaojiao anxiously jumped out, pulling Granny Shen to question about the rent.

Granny Shen waved her hand, feigning ignorance, and said, "What rent? I have no idea."

"You're lying!"

Lin Jiaojiao angrily pointed at Granny Shen, as Shen Xing and Shen Yue quickly stood in front of their grandmother.

Although thin-skinned, Shen Yue puffed up her cheeks and stood firm.

Being the only man of the house, Shen Xing had a stern, small cold face, with his chest held high.

"Are you a worm in our stomach? What makes you think you know?"

"Don't insult the worms."

Jiang Cheng returned.

The people in the courtyard looked towards the voice, exclaiming one after another, their pupils in shock.

Is this Jiang Cheng?

When did she become so beautiful?

Jiang Cheng walked over calmly, positioning herself skillfully in front of the Shen Family.

Since the matter started because of her, she had no intention of letting anyone else bear the responsibility.

Lin Jiaojiao stared intensely at Jiang Cheng's face, her heart filled with jealousy.

How could it be possible? How could it be?

A rural woman like Jiang Cheng, what right did she have to possess such a face!

Jiang Cheng, who was being watched, perfectly ignored Lin Jiaojiao, smiling appropriately at Director Zhang.

"Director Zhang, I've lived on our street for three years and have long become a member of this street. You've always taught us that the street is our home, and everyone should cherish it. With your influence, how could I disregard collective honor?"

Director Zhang: Did I say that??? But those words are quite good, need to note them down.

"Over the years, you've worked diligently and everyone has seen it. Under your leadership, our street has been outstanding every year. At such an important moment, how could I knowingly commit an offense to bring shame to you and our street!"

With a sense of righteousness, Jiang Cheng spoke with enthusiasm to Director Zhang.

So true!

If others had Jiang Cheng's awareness, he wouldn't lose so much hair trying to win awards.

"From yesterday to today, I've been figuring out ways to stay on our street. Coincidentally, I met Sister Du and will be taking over her work for two months. Here's my paperwork. I'll register at the street office first thing in the morning, ensuring our street isn't disgraced!"

Jiang Cheng spoke earnestly, and Director Zhang's anger unconsciously subsided.

Comrade Jiang has high awareness and handles things appropriately, not bad.

Even though he knew it was flattery, it was just flattering in a comfortable, correct, and worry-free way.

Unlike Lin Jiaojiao.

After glancing at Lin Jiaojiao, Director Zhang coughed twice and said, "Comrade Xiao Jiang has high awareness and works according to the rules. Only then can our street improve."

"Clap clap clap"

Jiang Cheng applauded, her face earnest.

She applauded, how could others not join?

In the enthusiastic applause, Director Zhang's mouth involuntarily curled up, though he tried to press it down as he looked at Jiang Cheng and said, "You don't have to do this, no need, no need! In the future, if you have any difficulties, reach out to the street. We're all here for the betterment of our street."

Jiang Cheng responded in agreement, her hands red from clapping.

She wasn't obsequious or servile, yet her words made Director Zhang completely comfortable.

In the end, Director Zhang didn't spare a glance at Lin Jiaojiao, leaving with his hands behind his back after reminding Jiang Cheng to seek help from the organization if needed.

After sending Director Zhang away, Jiang Cheng continued to disregard Lin Jiaojiao and walked towards Uncle Sun.

"Uncle Sun, thank you for all the trouble you've been through."

Uncle Sun waved his hand, saying, "It's nothing!"

"Of course it counts, you've been worrying along with me."

Jiang Cheng said a few more words, making Uncle Sun smile broadly.

A few words from Uncle Sun dispersed the people in the courtyard, while the Lin Family remained in shock.

"Jiang Cheng— you— you—"

Lin Jiaojiao struggled to speak a complete sentence.

He Dan, standing on the steps, suddenly felt a panic. Facing Jiang Cheng, whom she previously didn't care about, there was now a hint of disdain and deeply hidden fear in her eyes.

This face, could Lin Chengyuan truly remain unmoved?

He Dan dug her nails deep into her flesh.

Even if he's moved, what of it? A pretty-faced illiterate is no match for me.

He Dan comforted herself, feeling slightly at ease.

Standing straight, Jiang Cheng once again ignored Lin Jiaojiao and turned to the Shen Family.

"Grandma Shen, Shen Xing, Shen Yue, you all go inside first, I'll handle some flies."

Shen Xing grinned, and Shen Yue covered her mouth, giggling, as Granny Shen nodded slightly, and the family of three went inside.

Finally, Jiang Cheng turned to look at Lin Jiaojiao and the Lin Family behind her.

Without a smile or anger, her tone was calm.

"My relationship with the Lin Family is such that if you all perished, I'd celebrate with a string of firecrackers, so please don't entertain your vile ideas at my expense."

"Cursing you would be a waste of my time."

"You think you just lack someone to work for you, but actually, now that I'm gone, isn't there someone with a certificate to take my place?"

"Why waste what you don't need to, right?"
