Chapter 16 - The Edge of Truth

After getting himself ready, Austin Dre set off.

That evening he was going to dine with Angel Swan.

She had invited him to join her that evening for a certain party.

So he and Lee set off for the hotel by ten o'clock that evening.

He didn't want to be late.

"I can't believe you are finally turning a new leaf, boss," Lee said, eying him through the rearview mirror.

Austin Dre smirked; he wasn't interested in the conversation at all.

"I mean Angel Swan; she is even more beautiful than that pig…" Austin Dre cut him off.

"Lee!" he yelled.

"Ah! "Forget it," he shook his head.

"What?" Lee shrugged.

"Or are you still…," he eyed him sneakily.

Austin slapped his head.

"Lee, today is a good day, and I am happy please don't ruin my mood with your ridiculous prospects," he said.

"Okay then boss, if you say so," Lee agreed.

However, Austin fell deep in thought.

Whatever Lee was suggesting. What did he even feel? Was he still in love with Sonya Clay? He was confused.

His thoughts ran wild.

"Oh shit, what am I thinking," he cried inwardly.

Was it so hard to let go? But after everything? No way.

If he went back to begging for her attention and love, he would be the greatest simp of all time. And he was not ready to embark on that. Furthermore, he had no time even if he wanted to.

He thought those ideas out and, taking a deep breath, calmed down.

"We are here," Lee announced.

Austin Dre gazed outside.

The scene made him frown.

Was this just going to be an ordinary dinner?

Then, why were there so many luxury cars and people gathered outside?

There was something fishy.

At that moment, Lee cleared her throat and said in a somewhat apologetic tone.

"Oh! I almost forgot. Today there was an elite summit here this evening. "Everyone nouveau riche young businesswomen and men were supposed to be gathering at the New Gilliard hotel, here." the last word was spoken slowly as it dawned on him.

"Wait a minute boss, didn't Angel Swan invite you here? "Well, what does that mean," he looked at his boss strangely.

Austin Dre sighed then said calmly, "It's okay Lee, let's go in, it will be rude to leave just like that," Lee nodded.

Then hesitantly asked, "You know she must be one of the guestsof honor. Are you sure you will be okay?"

Austin smiled then said, "We'll see!"

Lee shrugged, and the two walked over towards the entrance of the hotel.

"Stop!" just as they were about to go inside the hotel, a voice sounded.

The two stopped and looked behind. "Where do you think you are going?" a burly guard roared.

"Inside of course," declared an irritated Lee.

"And who the hell should the two of you be?" the guard sneered.

"Hey sir, you are being disrespectful," Austin suggested.

The guard looked him up and down.

His face contorted in disgust.

He looked at the two and judged them by their clothing.

Austin had casual trousers with a checked shirt and white sneakers. If he really even believed that he was going on a date, he would be lying to himself, let alone any other person. How does a person go for a date in white sneakers? It was absurd, but this guy clearly had no care in the world.

He had always liked a less exaggerated appearance.

So the guard mistook him for someone trying to cause trouble.

"Just get out of this place. "If you don't want me to drag the two of you out right now," the guard was rapidly losing his composure.

"Sir, I said we were invited here," Lee pressed on.

"By whom," the guard sneered.

Then, "The cleaner, the cook?" he mocked.

Austin Dre found himself smiling at that statement.

"What's funny punk," the guards asked angrily.

He didn't speak.

"You are so arrogant?" Lee also began losing his temper.

"Okay, then," Austin Dre said.

"What!" the guard asked.

"What do you need for us to enter?" Austin Dre probed.

"I need nothing, just for you two to leave," Austin Dre shook his head and didn't say another word. However, Lee was livid. He stared at the guard as if to devour him with these eyes.

"Calm down, this is going to be fun," Austin Dre smirked coldly, then crossed his arms.

Another guard, after noticing how long it had taken his colleague to deal with this too, walked over.

"Jack, what's going on," he inquired, looking over the other two.

"These two troublemakers do not want to leave," Jack sounded angry.

When the other guard's gaze fell on Austin Dre, it lingered for a moment.

His face contorted, and it appeared as if he was deep in thought.

After sometime, he snapped out of his daze and asked.

His eyes flashed bright with recognition.

"Sir, do I know you?"

The other guard looked at his colleague questioningly.

Austin Dre shook his head.

But then the guards' eyes flashed with recognition.

"I remember," he shouted.

The other guard was now very worried.

Was it that he had offended a big shot? Someone whose power he couldn't comprehend?

He fidgeted with his fingers very troubled.

"Who is he?" he asked nervously.

"Aah! "I know who you are?" He smiled mischievously.

"You are Miss Sonya's boy toy," he said condescendingly.

Everyone, even those standing around, heard what the guards said.

They all turned and got closer to watching the show.

Austin Dre was also stunned.

He hadn't anticipated that even a mere guard would be able to recognize him that fast.

It seemed he was a celebrity now, but not for the right reasons.

He, however, didn't care if it had happened, it had happened.

There was no way he could manipulate what others thought or said about him.

And even if there was a way. He was too bored to care about it.

"You mean that guy?" the other guard gave a sigh of relief.

"Yes, I am a hundred percent sure about it. "This is the legendary alleged Austin. "I don't remember his surname," he explained.

"Well, what a coincidence?" Jack eyed Austin Dre with deep malice.

Austin Dre felt the cold gaze from the crowd and smirked.

Then they began murmuring among themselves.

"Is it really him?" one asked.

"I heard he even attempted suicide after Sonya Clay took everything back from him."

"Such an unlucky guy, I pity him," some sympathized with him, while others spoke maliciously.

He listened intently, catching every phrase.

"He is just a looser,"

"And why is he even here?"

"I think he must have heard that Sonya Clay was dropping by later so he decided to grovel back and beg for her forgiveness."

"Yeah, I think you are right,"

"Such a wuss," they looked at him, as if he was some plague or something.

Austin Dre remained cold and indignant all this time.

This was not something he would be indignant about in his past life, but now. He is too lazy nowadays to even give a shit.

"Bastards, you think you are great? "Only if you knew," he shook his head and smiled, enjoying the moment.
