Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Bloodvine Ring, Spirit-Storage Grass

Sighing, Sunan shook his head and didn't think much further.

No matter what, with the Synthesis Cube and the Player Panel as his golden fingers, he would never end up like Anger MacLaine.

He put down the diary and picked up another one.

To his delight, the content of this diary turned out to be Anger MacLaine's experiment records on the Black Rock Leopard.

It detailed the refining process of the Black Rock Leopard.

"With this experiment record, as long as I can learn the Puppet Refining skill from these books on the shelf, I can attempt to refine a Black Rock Leopard!"

Sunan's face showed a joyful smile.

The Black Rock Leopard, after all, was a knight-level puppet, loyal and reliable, fearless of death, and can be considered an excellent combat force.

Having a batch of Black Rock Leopards on hand would provide more safety when going out to gather materials in the future.

Securing both diaries, Sunan picked up the ring.

The dull grey ring looked like a cheap trinket peddled by a street vendor, not eye-catching at all.

But in Sunan's perception, the ring was like a miniature black hole, constantly absorbing free energy particles from the surrounding air.

"A magic item!"

Sunan's eyes lit up.

Unexpectedly, Anger MacLaine left behind a magic item.

Sunan glanced back and saw that the others were still outside, so he subtly opened the Synthesis Cube and placed the ring on it.

A line of text soon appeared before him.

[Bloodvine Ring (Alchemy/Low Magic Item), upon activation can summon bloodvine to bind a specified target and slightly continuously absorb the target's energy; usage count 3/3, usage can be restored by injecting Spiritual Power or automatically absorbing free energy particles.]

"Not bad, a very practical effect."

Sunan nodded quietly.

Magic items are classified into tiers.

The lowest is the Alchemy Level, also known as Low Magic Items.

These magic items often have only a single enchantment trait.

For example, dimension bags, space rings.

Or weapons enchanted with traits like sharpness, bleeding, black steel, etc.

Although they are just low-tier magic items, their power is quite considerable.

Take the Bloodvine Ring for instance. Sunan estimated that even a Peak Knight would most likely be unable to break free if bound by the bloodvine.

For him, a Wizard Apprentice, a Low Magic Item is undoubtedly immensely precious.

Of course, to use the Bloodvine Ring, he would still have to wait until he advances to a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice.

Only with a basic ability to control energy particles can one activate magic items.

Above the Alchemy Level is the Micro-Light Level magic items, also known as Low Magic Items.

These magic items usually have multiple magical traits, their value far exceeding Alchemy Level magic items.

Even a Level 3 Wizard Apprentice would be overjoyed to acquire one.

Above Micro-Light Level is the Magic Level.

This level represents true magic items, also known as Witchcraft Artifacts.

Witchcraft Artifacts usually have at least one magic power that can be triggered, their power is astounding.

Generally, only Official Wizards are eligible to possess Witchcraft Artifacts.

As for higher-level magic items, Sunan guessed that the current Starlight Continent probably doesn't have even one.

In fact, in the past life game, it wasn't until the 2.0 game version "Return of the Wizard" that Witchcraft Artifacts above the magic level appeared.

"I remember quite a few Low Magic Items and Alchemy Level items had been left behind on the 1.0 version Starlight Continent, I'll have to ask my big brother to keep an eye out."

Sunan mused to himself.

However, that being said, unactivated magic items appear no different from ordinary items to common people and are hard to distinguish.

Even if Kei helps to keep an eye out, it might not be very effective.

Better than nothing, I guess.

Sunan secured the Bloodvine Ring and turned to look at the last two wooden boxes.

Opening the larger wooden box, inside were three leaf-like pieces the size of an index finger.

They resembled clovers but were blue and purple throughout, glistening and smooth like gemstone-shaped leaves.

"Is this... Spirit-Storage Grass!"

At first glance, Sunan recognized the origin of the leaves, excitedly widening his eyes.

He immediately placed the leaves into the Cube.

[Spirit-Storage Grass, purity 29.28%, consumption can slightly increase Spiritual Power, the exact effect depends on the consumer's Spiritual Power; the higher the Spiritual Power, the weaker the effect; ineffective for those with Spiritual Power of 12 or above.]

"It actually increases Spiritual Power!"

"Anger MacLaine was really generous..."

Halfway through the sentence, Sunan suddenly realized, as a Level 3 Wizard Apprentice, Anger MacLaine's Spiritual Power definitely exceeded 12, making the Spirit-Storage Grass useless for him, so it's no surprise it wasn't valued much.

"Well then, that's good luck for me now."

Sunan happily closed the box and proceeded to open the other wooden box.

Inside were more than thirty shiny gemstones.

"Sapphire, ruby, fire opal, iridescent stone, moonstone..."

Sunan exclaimed in wonder.

The gemstones together were definitely worth more than a thousand Gold Coins.

"Good stuff."

Sunan considered and decided to keep these gemstones for himself.

After all, with the batch of Black Stone Iron in the warehouse and the soon-to-reopen Black Stone Mine, Black Stone City should not lack money for a long time, so selling these gemstones for Gold Coins is unnecessary.

More importantly, for Wizards, gemstones are a precious material.

Precious gemstones not only serve as decoration and adornment.

In the hands of Wizards, gemstones have many uses.

For instance, they can serve as casting media for certain special spells.

Sunan remembered a spell faction called "Gem Spells," for which gemstones serve as casting media.

This spell faction is famously a money pit.

Every spell cast requires a gemstone, costing from dozens to hundreds of Gold Coins.

Wizards without substantial wealth cannot afford the consumption.

However, in exchange, the spells of this faction are incredibly powerful.

A Tier One Burning Hands, using a ruby as casting media, could be boosted to near Tier Two or even Tier Three level in power!

Thus, heirs to this spell faction are famously both wealthy and experts in battling across tiers.

Apart from spell media, gemstones are also frequently used as consumables in magic item creation.

The most common example is magic staffs.

Embedding different types of gemstones on magic staffs can add specific magical powers to them.

Additionally, gemstones are often used as energy cores in puppet crafting.

Many Wizard Apprentices who cannot afford Soul Crystals settle for making gemstones into energy cores instead.

In summary, gemstones have numerous applications, and unless necessary, Sunan would not want to sell them easily.

After checking the drawers, Sunan carefully searched the other corners of the room, but unfortunately did not find other valuable items.

"Oh well, I've already gotten quite a few good things this time. Can't be too greedy."

Sunan let out a long breath, tidied up his belongings, and left the room.

While he'd been in the study, Kei had already sent people to notify the soldiers waiting outside to bring in carts to transport the Black Iron Ingots; right now the hall was bustling with activity.

Seeing Sunan coming out, Kei didn't ask what he found inside, but instead pointed to the laboratory and asked, "Do you want the things inside? If so, I can have them moved to your courtyard."

"No need." Sunan shook his head.

After decades, even the magic traps have failed, and the puppet refining equipment inside was long damaged, and repairing it was useless.

Anyway, the experiment records left by Anger MacLaine contained relevant equipment blueprints, so if needed later, they could just have the blacksmiths in the territory forge a new set.
