Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Setting Out

Just on the road, the group was already speculating about what type of Zero Level Spell Raine mastered.

For example, Grande, who was carrying an iron round shield and had a hand crossbow at his waist, guessed that Raine mastered Mage's Hand.

The reason was, in his view, Raine seemed somewhat embarrassed to discuss the spell he mastered, which indicated the spell probably wasn't directly offensive or had minimal attack power.

And Mage's Hand, such a Zero Level Spell, happens to have weak direct attack power, requiring intentional creation of an environment for casting.

Of course, it's not that Mage's Hand is a weak spell, but rather whether one can use it well or not.

If Mage's Hand is used poorly, then...

As for Fabian, who was always fiddling with a dagger, he thought Raine might master the Friends Spell, which required going into the woodland to cast.

After all, charming a rabbit and making it bow to them is indeed hard to say out loud.

Until Raine said he wanted to hit the third tree, Fabian realized his guess might be wrong.

And before he could continue pondering this issue, he saw the scene in front of him.

As for Reya, previously her mind was also turning along the way, after all, mastering Light Technique counted as a Mage Apprentice.

Although there are no useless spells, only useless Mage Apprentices.

But the problem is, Light Technique really doesn't have many applications for their well-coordinated Adventurer Squad and doesn't help much in completing the task of killing the Wild Boar People.

Until Raine said he wanted to hit the third tree, Reya was already pleasantly surprised.

An attack spell?

Could it be a direct attack spell like Acid Splash or Poison Gas?

That would indeed be a delightful surprise.

Of course, if it's Flaming Arrow, we should celebrate at the Fireplace Bar.

Until Raine shot out a blue-white beam.

"Freezing Ray! And the power is strong," Chris had already stepped forward to examine the tree.

He spoke while touching the still frost-covered trunk.

"Raine, you can actually cast Freezing Ray. It's hard to believe you haven't had a fixed squad before."

Just on the road, Raine didn't say what the spell was, but mentioned he didn't have a fixed squad.

"Ahem... Raine, you wouldn't have some kind of bad habit, would you?" Chris, considering himself as the one who recruited Raine, chatted enthusiastically, with an arm around Raine's shoulder.

"Of course not." Raine was slightly taken aback, then immediately shook his head in denial.

"Alright, Chris, stop talking nonsense." As the leader, Reya quickly interrupted Chris.

In her view, as long as Raine didn't have any particularly outlandish bad habits, she would certainly find a way to keep him.

"Raine, very glad you could join our squad."

"Thank you."

"However, I must clarify that, for the time being, I can only cast this spell twice in a row, so..." Raine thought about it and felt he should be upfront about this.

He still held back a bit.

Actually, with some practice, possibly due to some slight improvement in Spiritual Power, or becoming more proficient, he could barely manage to cast three times.

But he must keep some spare capacity.

"Twice? The normal Mage Apprentice standard." Reya's pretty face seemed to show no sign of thinking this was inappropriate.

Upon hearing this answer, Raine felt relieved.

This answer told him that, generally, he wasn't too far off from a Mage Apprentice.

With the spell 'Freezing Ray' in the forefront, the others quickly warmed up to chatting with Raine.

When asked where Raine learned his spell, he was already prepared to tell a lie of goodwill.

He fabricated a non-existent minstrel, who stayed in Oak Village for a while and got along well with him, then gifted him the spell—Freezing Ray.

"A minstrel?"

"I see."

"Many minstrels are actually disguised Grand Mages, they enjoy the role of a minstrel."

Upon hearing Raine's answer, the group nodded and showed expressions of deep belief.

After all, that's the kind of thing minstrels love to do—good deeds are rewarded, and related tales can be shared in many places.

"Seems like we should celebrate at the Fireplace Bar today," Chris smiled and said from the side.

"Captain, shouldn't you treat us?"

"Let's wait until the task is completed to go, we embark early tomorrow, better to prepare tonight." Reya furrowed her brows slightly and shook her head, dismissing Chris's suggestion.

At this moment, she seemed to remember something and apologized slightly to Raine: "Raine, you don't mind, right?"

"Of course not," Raine replied with a smile.

Setting out for a mission early in the morning, getting drunk tonight would be inappropriate.

If that were the case, he would have to reassess the level of this elite squad.

After all, Wild Boar People are not low-level demons like goblins.

Meanwhile, through casual chat along the way, Raine had become more familiar with the temporary squad members he joined.

Reya, as the squad leader and also a beautiful woman, naturally drew a bit more of Raine's attention.

Currently, Reya seems not only beautiful but also very assertive.

Plus, judging by the big bow slung behind her, her strength must be quite impressive, no wonder she can lead this elite squad.

"Captain, is there anything I need to prepare extra?" Raine proactively asked.

He knew well the preparations for a regular adventure squad, having experienced two goblin tasks.

But this time, joining an elite squad, it seemed prudent to ask.

After all, to Raine, departing tomorrow might seem rushed, and wasn't there a need for integration with a new squad member?

"No need, your Freezing Ray accuracy is high enough and I've thought of the best way to utilize it." Reya replied with a smile.

Soon, on the way to buying supplies, Raine had a vague guess about what Reya wanted him to do in the battle.

...

The next morning.

Raine arrived ten minutes early on the southwest road of Mill Town.

At this point, Reya and the others were already there.

However, Raine felt slightly puzzled as Chris was not present.

But his puzzlement didn't last a minute before it was resolved.

On the road, he saw Chris and a driver sitting side by side in front of a large wagon pulled by two horses, waving at them with smiles.

"A wagon pulled by two horses?"

Raine's eyes brightened slightly, immediately gaining a concrete sense of the elite squad's financial capability.

To know, in Mill Town, ordinary people travel between towns and villages mostly by cheap ox carts rather than wagons.

Also, the driver, for profit, had to cram twenty or so people into a not-so-spacious space.

In this regard, low-level adventurers are no different from ordinary people.

The last two times, when Raine and a temporary adventure squad went to kill small groups of goblins, they crowded into an ox cart, slow-moving and with poor air quality.

And this time, the travel experience was evidently much better.

Soon, the group climbed into the large wagon and headed to the destination.

Through the gaps in the cover, Raine could clearly see the golden fields of rice outside the wagon and dense green woods in the distance, the autumn breeze passing by gave a pleasant sense of tranquility.
