Alina busied herself in the kitchen, her attention focused on the bowl of milk as she stirred the full cream inside it a little too carefully. The spoon circled the bowl, the faint clink against ceramic the only sound in the kitchen.
Sweat dotted her forehead, rolling down her cheeks despite the cool air drifting through the window. She paused for a second, then resumed stirring, slower this time.
Her grip tightened slightly around the spoon. Meeting Elena again should have unsettled her but it wasn't. She had expected the worst to happen but Elena had asked for forgiveness in return. Although she didn't fully understand the woman, Alina was willing to become her ally for one day.
Liam had yet to come back home since it was still two pm while his school usually closed at four.
Since Alina arrived from the cafe shop where she had an intense discussion with Elena, the apartment had been unusually quiet, unlike before when it was always lively with movement and loud chatter.
