Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: The Scumbag's Heartlessness

In an instant, Miles Crawford seemed like a married jerk, overly attentive to female classmates outside, and now that he's been exposed, he spews harsh words at his fiancée.

After being distanced by Zoe Wymond, Miles's disdain for Ariana Thorne reached its peak, and he blurted out without thinking, "There's no engagement between us! It was your shameless father who came to my family to propose, and none of what he said to my mom counts. I'm telling you, don't appear in front of me again in the future!"

Shea Thorne couldn't stand such humiliation, and a surge of sharp pain hit her again, causing her to clutch her chest while holding onto the table corner.

Did you hear that? Ariana Thorne, you're despicable, and your dad is shameless too.

But you deserve it!

Interfering with her friendships, and now she makes Miles Crawford even more disgusted!

The words Miles Crawford said were rather harsh, publicly calling someone's father shameless would normally invite a good slap, if only out of respect for one's upbringing.

But once the words were out, they couldn't be taken back, and seeing Shea Thorne visibly uncomfortable and about to faint, Crawford's classmate, noticing something wrong, immediately stepped in to persuade him, "Crawford, families should be off-limits, talk it out properly."

Isla Bishop walked over to support Shea Thorne, noticing her face was covered in sweat, she quickly sat her down on a chair and poured her some water.

"Little sister, don't be upset. Miles is not involved with Wymond. It's just that this morning, Wymond's experiment report had some issues and her advisor caught it, so she's in a bad mood." These words exposed a shortcoming but the fact was that Zoe Wymond, eager to show off her experiment progress in front of Professor Sinclair, had presumptuously shown a joint report to him which got rejected.

Despite her appearing close to Miles Crawford, everyone in the building knew she liked Professor Sinclair. However, Professor Sinclair didn't so much as glance at her, so now she sought comfort from Miles, which Shea Thorne witnessed, leading to the current awkward situation.

"I'm not a little sister, I am Miles Crawford's fiancée."

Shea Thorne clarified her words clearly, and after speaking, took out the snacks from her shopping bag and offered some to Isla Bishop, "Thank you for your concern. These snacks were specially sent to me by Auntie Crawford. I can't finish them all by myself, so I'd like to share them with you all."

She was well aware of whom Miles had requested these snacks for, but since she'd already been utterly embarrassed in the dorm, she adamantly wouldn't let him have his way, intending to share them with all his office classmates under her name.

In turn, enraging Miles, as there wouldn't be any of what she'd eaten left for him to share with others.

"Enough! Ariana Thorne, I'm begging you, don't appear in front of me again, we have nothing to do with each other!" Seeing the dried fish Zoe Wymond wanted to eat completely shared by Shea Thorne, Miles couldn't contain himself anymore and said, "I'll tell you one last time, we have nothing to do with each other! I'll immediately call my mom to have her explain to your dad clearly, my family doesn't find girls like you worthy!"

Seizing the moment, Shea Thorne asked, wounded, "Girls like me? What kind of girl am I?!"

"What's wrong with me? I wash and iron your clothes by hand until they're clean, and today I even brought them over specially for you. Exactly what have I done wrong? Tell me!" With a look of heart-breaking misery, Shea Thorne deliberately picked up the shopping bag to show her virtue, and asked Miles Crawford, "I clean your house every day; what more do you want from me, what kind of girl am I?"

A girl like Ariana Thorne treats Miles Crawford too well, to the point of being cheap.

He could claim not to like Ariana Thorne, but he had no right to say she wasn't good enough for him, especially considering that he and his mother relied on her father for living expenses.

In truth, she had gone above and beyond for Miles, exceeding many girls' limits. For him to then say Shea Thorne was inadequate was truly the behavior of a scoundrel.

Such darlings are the ones who become feared and powerful, treating a girl's sincere heart with such disdain.

"Enough! Miles, stop speaking!" Zoe Wymond, who had been watching, seized the opportunity to smooth things over, speaking to Shea Thorne, "Little sister, I heard from Miles that you're a student from the neighboring F University, right? I believe girls should have their own lives too. F University's workload is relatively light, but you shouldn't push everything onto Miles, otherwise both of you will be uncomfortable."

She was implying that her school was third-rate, not as good as the National Medical University, with less academic pressure, which is why she had the time to stick to Miles, constantly bothering him.

"This… little sister, I think you should focus more on your studies which will be beneficial when you enter society in the future, right?" said a boy wearing glasses, clearly intending well.

Seeing her chase after Miles every day, to be honest, he felt tired just watching.

Another girl standing next to Zoe Wymond found her chance to speak, saying disdainfully, "Is it too late for studies now? Someone like her is useless once she's out of school, without cozying up to a man with her looks, what else can she do?!"

Sure enough, as soon as they heard she was a student from F University, their expressions changed immediately. Discrimination existed between schools too, and they all felt she was trying to leap above her station with Miles.

"Why would you talk like that? Discriminating because of poor academics, aren't you not part of our lab either? Should you leave then?" Isla Bishop was not having it, having gone on a blind date with Professor Sinclair before and seen what the best looks like, others were all the same in Isla's eyes.

Thinking back, there was an external student who sneaked into National Medical University to audit classes after failing the college entrance exam. When he was discovered by Professor Sinclair, the professor didn't discriminate and even allowed him to stay and listen. Why should they discriminate?

"And you're not, so what are you doing here?!" The girl, unconvinced, retorted.

"I'm from the neighboring lab, my advisor is more senior than Professor Sinclair, by your logic I have more say than you do." Isla responded, originally, these things were up to personal interest, but articulating it like this was inappropriate.

"You…!" The girl couldn't talk back to Isla, so she immediately turned to Shea Thorne, "Why haven't you left yet?! You're an outsider, don't drag down the IQ at our National Medical University!"

Shea Thorne wasn't bothered by what they were saying, she stared directly at Miles Crawford and asked, "Do you agree with her, are you telling me to leave too?"

Look carefully at this love pursued for three lifetimes, what kind of devil or monster is it really.

...

Shea Thorne intentionally asked both questions together, not giving Ariana Thorne the bitter medicine, she'd always be hung up on Miles Crawford. As long as Miles wanted her to leave, both questions had to have the same answer.

"I…" Miles Crawford knew these two questions were difficult to answer; he wanted her to leave, but didn't want to admit he was discriminating, thinking that a school not being up to par made her unworthy of him.

They grew up together, he would prefer not to make things so ugly if it weren't for her increasingly clingy behavior.

"Young lady, why don't you head back first. I'll talk to Miles, and come find you once he's calmed down, okay?" Zoe Wymond, playing the role of an understanding elder sister, stood in front of Miles again, appearing to comfort Shea Thorne, but actually urging her to leave.

Sure enough, Miles's gaze toward her carried more gratitude, and instead, he looked at Shea Thorne as if she was making a scene, blaming her for being unreasonable.

Truly laughable, Ariana Thorne, what are you holding onto for him for, really?
