Reed's POV
"I noticed how close they seemed at the station, but I never imagined it was real. Jenifer's lost her mind picking Kolton. Don't let it get to you." Lorelei moved closer, resting her hands on my shoulders in comfort.
Her eyes drifted to the wine glass in my grip, a faint smile playing on her lips. "If alcohol dulls the hurt, let me keep you company. Better than suffering alone."
I stiffened, then quickly placed my glass down.
"No," I said, gathering myself as I pushed the drink aside. "You need to head back."
Jenifer already despises how tight Lorelei and I are. If she discovers I'm here drinking with Lorelei by myself, she'll never forgive me, I thought, still holding onto hope we could patch things up.
Lorelei grew frustrated seeing how little headway she'd made with Reed, who kept ignoring her signals. 'But if he drinks enough to lose his grip, that might be my opening to get closer. Then I'd be just one step from becoming his wife.'
