Viper noticed immediately when Ryan stepped out of the gym. Kirlia was walking beside him, small hand clutching his, fully awake and alert.
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
"So he did manage to cure her," she muttered, voice low and edged with irritation.
She kept watching through the binoculars, steady at first. But then Ryan looked up toward the sky, straight at their balloon. Viper's grip tightened on the lenses.
She hesitated, a brief flicker in her eyes, the same quiet pause she always had when something felt off. She glanced at Nova, then back down.
Viper turned her head toward Nova. "I think that boy just looked up toward our balloon. He probably noticed us."
Nova took out her binoculars and looked down. She stared at Ryan's, but he had already looked away, walking on quite streets.
"Ignore it, it's probably just a coincidence," she said flatly. "Just keep watching. When we get the opportunity, we'll get your Pokémon back."
But the balloon still drifted silently higher, moving a little further up to stay hidden.
Viper nodded once, sharp and obedient.
She raised the binoculars again and continued to watch. The balloon kept its distance, always just out of easy sight, but never losing track.
…
When we pushed through the doors, Nurse Joy looked up from the counter. Her face lit up with relief the moment she saw us.
"Ryan! You're back… and Kirlia!" She hurried around the counter, eyes softening as she took in the pink figure clinging to my leg. "She's awake. Oh, thank goodness."
Kirlia peeked out from behind me, hesitant.
After that, we got Kirlia checked. She was too scared to go into her ball and leave my side, so I had to stay with her the whole time.
Nurse Joy didn't mind at all. She did a proper check-up right there, with me close to Kirlia.
Kirlia was a bit scared seeing all those machines and lights, but Meowscarada and Lopunny went first to show her it wasn't harmful.
They let the scanner run over them, then purred and hummed softly to calm her. Only then did Kirlia relax enough to let Nurse Joy finish.
Afterward, we ate something light. Then we took a walk around the city.
I attracted quite a bit of attention walking with three Pokémon most people had never seen before. A few trainers came up to challenge me, eyes eager, but I refused politely. I wasn't in the mood for battles today.
Later, I even visited a famous fighting dojo in the city.
Kirlia tried so many new things for the first time, different foods, sweet berries, warm dishes, fresh fruit from stalls.
She tasted each one carefully, eyes wide at first, then brighter with every bite. She smiled more than I'd ever seen.
Watching her like that made my chest ache in the best way. Sad for what she'd missed, happy she was discovering it now.
She was finally happy. Safe. Free to enjoy things without fear.
And that was more than enough.
Night came quietly.
We settled onto the wide bed in the Pokémon Center room. Kirlia curled up near my chest, her small body finally relaxing, the tension draining from her as her breathing evened out into soft, trusting sighs.
Lopunny snuggled in on my right, one arm draped protectively over both Kirlia and me.
Meowscarada claimed the left side, her sleek fur brushing my skin, tail curling loosely around my waist like she was claiming her spot.
I drifted off like that, tangled together.
Then, in the quiet dark, a low purr brushed my ear.
Warm. Familiar. A little too close.
Meowscarada's breath ghosted over my skin. Her paw slipped under the blanket, roaming slowly, teasingly over my lower stomach, then lower still.
The purr deepened, vibrating against my neck, thick with want.
"Nyaa…♡~" she whispered, voice husky and needy, lips brushing my earlobe.
Lopunny stirred on my other side, a sleepy "Lopuu♡~" humming from her throat as her paw joined in, soft and exploring, fingers tracing lazy circles that made my breath hitch.
I woke up slowly, heart starting to race. We hadn't done this since morning, the rush to cure Kirlia, the battle, that dream… it had all been too much.
But now, in the dark, their touches lit me up again, slow and insistent, pulling me back to them.
I glanced at Kirlia sleeping soundly between us, her small chest rising and falling peacefully.
"She'll wake up…" I whispered, voice rough and low, barely audible.
Meowscarada purred deeper, paw not stopping, sliding lower with deliberate slowness. "Nyaa♡~" The sound was soft but insistent, like she didn't care, like she needed this as much as I did.
Lopunny's touch grew bolder, paw pressing firmer. "Lopuu♡~"
I understood. They wouldn't stop. And truthfully, I didn't want them to, not after everything that happened today.
So we all three quietly slipped out of bed, careful not to wake Kirlia. I tucked the blanket around her gently, smoothing it over her small form.
She sighed softly in her sleep, safe and unaware, her breathing steady and peaceful.
I looked at her one last time, heart full.
Then I turned to Meowscarada and Lopunny and nodded.
We moved together into the shadows, away from the bed.
And the night took us.
