Chapter 3 - The First Crack in Reality

Six months had passed since Li Fan's rebirth.

Li Fan's world was still small—a wooden hut,a dirt courtyard,a few fields of millet, and the winding paths leading into the forest.

His parents lived the life of true mortals—working the land, fishing in the nearby river, patching clothes by the fire.

There were no magical artifacts,no glowing symbols,no whispers of immortals or sects.

Just hard work and survival.

And yet…

Li Fan began noticing things that made his skin crawl.

One afternoon, his father carried him on his broad back while trimming branches around the fields. Li Fan looked around, taking in everything with curious newborn eyes.

When the wind blew, he felt it—

A faint pressure.Not strong.Not dangerous.Just… wrong.

On Earth, air moved lightly, carrying only heat and scent.

But here…

It felt thick.Dense.As if the entire world carried weight.

Even the sunlight seemed heavier, warmer, more alive.

His father didn't react at all—he breathed normally, unaware of anything unusual.

If the air is denser… humans here might be stronger by nature… or this world's physics is different…

The thought made a cold shiver run down his spine.

Something was off.

Over the months, Li Fan silently observed his mother tending their small garden. She planted herbs and vegetables regularly. But Li Fan noticed something strange:

The seedlings sprouted twice as fast as Earth plants should.Stems thickened in days, not weeks.Leaves unfurled overnight.

His mother simply smiled proudly.

"This year's crop is growing well!"

But Li Fan knew better.

Plants did not behave like this.

Not normal. Not natural. Something accelerates growth here…

He stared at a tomato vine swaying in the breeze.

Is it the soil? The air? The sunlight? Or… something else?

One day, his father brought home a wild boar he had trapped.

Li Fan, sitting in his mother's lap, stared at the creature—

It was enormous.Thick muscles.Tusks like daggers.Eyes too intelligent.

His father struggled to drag the beast into the yard.

Li Fan compared it to Earth boars in his memory.

This thing is twice their size… and dad caught it alone? Ordinary farmers shouldn't be strong enough to handle this.

But his father didn't seem superhuman. Just… durable. Well-built. Hardened by labor.

His mother praised him.

"You're really strong, husband!"

"Bah, it's nothing," the father said, but his chest puffed up with pride.

Li Fan's mind ran calculations automatically.

If the animals are stronger… then primitive humans must have adapted to survive. Or the world is fundamentally different.

His suspicion grew.

This was not Earth. Not ancient China. Not any historical era.

Something deeper lay beneath the surface.

One night, something happened that changed everything.

Li Fan was lying in his wooden cradle, wrapped in a thin blanket. His mother slept beside him, breathing softly. His father lay on the opposite side of the room.

The hut was silent.

Then—

A sound.

A low, distant howl.

Not a wolf. Not any animal he knew.

Something deeper.Vibrating.Resonant.Like a creature with lungs far larger than anything in their forest.

Li Fan's eyes widened.

His newborn heart thumped rapidly, his tiny fists clenching.

His father instantly woke up, sitting straight like a soldier who heard an alarm. He grabbed a wooden spear leaning against the wall.

His mother's face paled.

"That creature again… it's getting closer."

Li Fan froze.

Creature? Again?

His father whispered, voice steady but tense:

"Don't worry. It never comes into the village. As long as we don't go out at night, we're safe."

He stood guard for a while.Listening.Watching the dark windows.

The howl came again—closer, shaking the wooden walls.

Li Fan's blood turned cold.

No ordinary beast had a voice like that.

When the sound finally faded into the night, his father exhaled and lay back down.

His mother stroked Li Fan's head gently.

"Sleep, little Fan'er. Your father will protect us."

But Li Fan didn't sleep.

He just lay silently, staring at the ceiling.

This is not a normal world.

The air is heavy. The plants grow unnaturally fast. The animals are too strong. And something monstrous prowls the night.

His newborn eyes narrowed.

He was still trapped in an infant's body.

Weak.Helpless.Unable to speak.

But his mind—

His mind was awake.

I need to learn more. I need to understand this world.

And slowly, very slowly…

A spark of excitement stirred beneath his fear.

If this world is truly different… then perhaps my knowledge from Earth will give me an advantage no one else has.

He would watch.Learn.Analyze.Prepare.

For now…

He would survive.
