Chapter 4 - Rookie Breakthrough: Dominating the Court

For the Rockets fans, they had no idea who Wang was.

The only outstanding shooters they remembered on the Hornets were Trevor Ariza and Marco Belinelli.

They never expected that such an unknown young player would sink two consecutive three-pointers!

The live broadcast of the domestic game continued.

Zhang Weiping exclaimed again:

— "Oh my god! Well done!"— "Wang scored again, hey!"

Yu Jia added from the side:

— "It's obvious that Wang has a fantastic touch tonight!"— "He hit two consecutive three-pointers after entering the game! The score has now been narrowed to 6 points!"— "It seems that playing alongside Paul allows him to get many opportunities; as long as there is an open shot, he will pass him the ball!"— "As long as Wang can seize these opportunities, he might be able to secure his position on the team!"

Domestic fans watching the broadcast shared the commentators' excitement, feeling incredibly thrilled; the previous voices of doubt regarding Wang were now replaced by praise.

On the court, Chris Paul high-fived Wang with satisfaction.

In just these two possessions, two passes resulted in two assists!

Paul was very pleased that Wang hadn't wasted the opportunities:

— "Rookie, that's the way!"

Wang's lips curled slightly:

— "Just pass it to me whenever I'm open!"— "I won't let you down!"

Paul looked at the confident young man in front of him and suddenly laughed:

— "Alright! Don't pressure yourself!"— "Even if you miss, I won't blame you!"

For a young player, confidence is certainly a good thing.

However, no one can guarantee that every shot will go in.

As long as the opportunity is created, it is good.

Wang became increasingly confident in himself! Is this the intensity of the NBA???

Just so-so!

The other Hornets players also encouraged Wang! They were very happy about his excellent performance.

However, at this moment, the Rockets players were not having such a good time.

Shane Battier couldn't help but say to Kevin Martin:

— "Martin, focus up!"— "Guard that kid properly!"

As Wang's primary defender, the consecutive scores made Kevin Martin lose face.

On the first shot, he had gone over to help defend, so his teammates couldn't say much.

But this shot was legitimate; it went in while he was defending him.

Kevin Martin said nothing and silently walked to the frontcourt.

He signaled to Kyle Lowry that he wanted to run an off-ball screen play, intending to retaliate against Wang, that young player!

Wang wasn't the only one who could shoot threes!

Three-pointers were his bread and butter!

Facing the request of the star player, Lowry naturally did not refuse him.

He dribbled the ball into the frontcourt, extended his hand, and instructed his other teammates on the strategy for this possession.

The others understood tacitly and ran the play just as they did in practice.

Kevin Martin executed all sorts of off-ball movements, but he found he couldn't shake Wang's defense no matter what.

Wang stuck to him like chewing gum.

He was very fast, and his body was much stronger than his.

Even Kevin Martin hadn't expected the physical condition of this seemingly green rookie to be so good.

Moreover, he was incredibly focused, sticking close to him.

Kevin Martin circled around, running his route according to the play, and Yao Ming tacitly set a screen on his trailing defender.

Wang was slightly delayed by Yao Ming for a moment, but he was not completely stopped.

He squeezed through the gap between the players.

But this brief moment was enough to give Kevin Martin an opening; he had already arrived at the weak-side corner three-point spot.

Wang was still two steps away from Kevin Martin, just like the previous possession, only the roles were reversed.

Kevin Martin intended to sink this basket in the exact same manner, hoping to extinguish Wang's arrogant demeanor!

The play was executed successfully, and Lowry passed the ball out as planned.

The passing lane was clear, with no interference.

Kevin Martin's lips curled slightly, flashing a smile at Wang.

Two steps of space were more than enough for him to get his shot off.

And so, he caught the ball, jumped, and shot with his signature "crooked" shooting form.

There was no hesitation.

The moment the ball left his hand, he was certain it would go in!

However, just then, he realized Wang had already rushed up!!!

He had even jumped, and the height of his leap was astonishing!

The basketball, which he thought would form a perfect arc in the air,

was ruthlessly swatted down by Wang's large hands!

Normally, no one could block this shot from that distance.

However, what Martin hadn't expected was that Wang's physical condition would be this good!

His speed was like a cheetah!

His vertical leap was so high, perhaps nearly a meter!

He hadn't realized until now: Wang, who was a few centimeters shorter than him, had such long arms!

His large hands, like dark clouds gathering, directly swatted the basketball away.

This play caused the fans at the Toyota Center to gasp in astonishment!!!

— "Oh my god!!!"— "Martin was actually blocked by this rookie!"— "His vertical leap is insane!"

All the players on the court were stunned, and even the Rockets players on the bench couldn't bear to watch.

They frowned, covered their eyes, pretending they hadn't seen anything.

Meanwhile, the Hornets players on the bench were ecstatic, erupting in cheers!

Head Coach Monty Williams smiled as he watched Wang, applauding continuously from the sideline.

Wang's consecutive performance completely refreshed his impression of him.

Williams suddenly felt that perhaps he should give this young man more opportunities.

His open three-pointers were accurate, his defense was tenacious, and his athleticism was explosive!

The Wang he watched in previous practices, whom he had often nodded approvingly at, seemed to have transformed completely!

Domestic fans were also filled with shock and joy:

— "Oh my heavens!!! Emperor Wang is terrifying!"— "That block was so satisfying!"— "That's incredible!!!"— "The Charlotte Hornets are gaining momentum! I suddenly feel like they are going to win!"

This sudden block was delivered abruptly, and Wang deliberately swatted the ball toward his teammate's position.

Before anyone else could react, the ball had already landed in Paul's hands.

Wang didn't linger in the joy of the successful block; instead, he quickly sprinted forward after landing.

Since the opponent hadn't retreated on defense yet, this was a perfect opportunity for a fast break!

Kevin Martin stood dumbfounded in place, completely stunned by that massive block.

Shane Battier quickly shouted loudly:

— "Get back on defense!!!"

He said this while sprinting quickly toward the backcourt.

Paul, the tactical master, naturally wouldn't miss such a fast-break chance, immediately dribbling the ball rapidly toward the basket.

Lowry followed closely behind him.

The rest of the Rockets players were also desperately running back.

Paul quickly reached the paint, intending to lay the ball up for a score.

However, Lowry rushed over, closing off the space for his layup.

Just then, Paul looked back and saw Wang quickly cutting in; he was completely open, moving very fast, with everyone else behind him.

Wang pointed toward the hoop, and Paul, understanding him perfectly, tossed the ball high up behind him.

Everyone else watched helplessly as the ball soared through the air.

After entering the restricted area, Wang took off, his body fully extended, leaping high!

He perfectly slammed the basketball hard into the hoop with both hands.

He hung on the rim, then landed, roaring and pounding his chest.

The score was narrowed again!

82:78!!!

Wang scored eight consecutive points, and now the Charlotte Hornets were only down by four!

The audience at the Toyota Center were left with their mouths agape in shock after witnessing that alley-oop dunk!!!

The arena fell completely silent...
