As midnight approached, I made my way to Miller's Creek with Ezra, Drake, Jake, and a dozen of our best warriors positioned in the surrounding forest. Through the mate bond, I kept Ezra updated on everything I saw and heard.
Marcus was already there, standing alone on the bridge in the moonlight. He looked thinner, with dark circles under his eyes and a haunted expression.
"You came," he said, with genuine surprise in his voice.
"I'm here," I confirmed, staying at my end of the bridge. "Talk. Tell me what you know."
"My father is planning to petition for your territory tomorrow," Marcus said. "He's already secured support from Council members Aldric paid off. Unless you can prove the bribery, the Council will approve the land seizure."
"You said you have evidence."
Marcus pulled out a USB drive. "Financial records. Correspondence between my father and the Council members. Bank transfers. Everything you need to expose the bribery and block the land seizure."
