Chapter 160 - Another kind of Storm (pt.4)

@chunchunMaroo: and THAT, people of the entire world, is how you lose aura points. Documented. Timestamped. Witnessed by millions.

↳ @Rumi: he went from aura farming to just... hella mid. and I'm being generous with that assessment. truly charitable of me.

↳ @ClubPenguin: all I see are Ls. just. Ls. stacked on top of Ls. an architectural marvel of Ls.

↳ @Totoro: I mean. he's always been sus if I'm being completely honest. this is just the universe finally putting it in writing.

@LegalEagleKween: Citizens of the internet, I need you all to stop scrolling and pay attention for a moment because I do not think the general public fully understands the severity of what they are looking at. This is not your run of the mill celebrity headline. This is not a PR situation. Look at that photo — really LOOK at it — because the FBI, the CBP, AND Homeland Security are all in attendance. All three. Simultaneously. At an airport. For one person. I would not be remotely surprised if the CIA has a finger in this pie as well at this point.

↳ @ToyotaCorolla: forgive my ignorance oh esteemed stranger of the internet, but how exactly can you tell who's who? They all just look like men in dark clothing to me.

↳ @LegalEagleKween: That is actually a very valid and intelligent question and I will answer it properly. Preface first — yes I am a LEAVEN stan, yes I am a Silas simp, that part is personal and I stand by it. HOWEVER. Outside of fandom hours, I have worked as a prosecutor for a considerable number of years now. The handle is not just aesthetic. It is a statement of fact. Over the course of my career I have worked alongside the FBI, the CBP, and Homeland Security across multiple cases — sometimes individually, occasionally two of them together, and on rare and extremely hectic occasions, all three simultaneously. The agents currently in the process of introducing Kang Seo-yul to the floor? FBI. The figures you can make out in the background if you zoom into the left side of the photo? CBP and Homeland Security. I understand they may appear visually similar to the untrained eye but there are tells — the way they position themselves, the gear, the badges, the jurisdictional choreography of how they're arranged in the space. You develop an eye for it. As for the CIA — haven't had the pleasure yet, and honestly I suspect I never will, given that the entire point of the CIA is that you don't know they're there. So.

↳ @Malory: source: me 🤡🤡

↳ @LegalEagleKween: FOR THE LOVE OF — WHY ARE YOU HERE. Why do you follow me across the internet like a stray with bad intentions. Go. LEAVE. Return to whatever corner of the internet you emerged from. So help me I would not lose a single night of sleep taking this to an actual courtroom, you perpetual, committed, exhausting LEAVEN hater—

↳ @Malory: bet. let's see you try. 🙂

↳ @ToyotaCorolla: I'm sorry but. Did you just read the part where this person said they are a prosecutor. A PROSECUTOR. With FBI connections. Are you okay. Are you well. Are all your neurons firing correctly right now. I may be ignorant about law enforcement identification but I am absolutely educated enough to recognize someone who has consumed a lethal and irreversible amount of brain rot when I see it. Please drink some water and reconsider your life choices.

↳ @LegalEagleKween: ToyotaCorolla I don't know you but I would like to formally adopt you as my paralegal.

↳ @ToyotaCorolla: I accept. When do I start.

↳ @ClubPenguin: the way this comment section just accidentally assembled a legal team

↳ @Rumi: LegalEagleKween said "I wouldn't mind taking this to court" and meant it LITERALLY and Malory still said bet. the bravery. the stupidity. the absolute lack of self preservation instinct.

↳ @Totoro: Malory really looked a prosecutor with federal connections in the eye and said 🙂 I am in awe. not positively. just in awe.

↳ @404BrainNotFound: Malory's aura points are also gone at this point. solidarity with Kang Seo-yul I guess.

↳ @Malory: don't you DARE put me in the same sentence as that man.

↳ @404BrainNotFound: then maybe don't pick fights with federal prosecutors on main 🙂

"Wow," Hyouka said, scrolling through Z with the quiet reverence of someone watching a natural disaster unfold in real time from a very safe distance. A shiver ran visibly down her spine. "Papa Foca is actually scary." A beat. "No — scratch that. The whole Foca family is scary."

"Don't be too surprised just yet, my dearest assistant," Foca said, in that voice of his — soft, warm, perfectly pleasant — except for the smile. The smile that sat just slightly outside the boundaries of what a completely normal smile looked like. The eeriness of it wasn't loud. It didn't announce itself. It just... lingered, the way a drop of ink spreads through water. Quietly. Completely. "The main event hasn't happened yet."

"And from what I've already heard," Luca said, leaning back with the self-satisfied smirk of a man holding cards he very much enjoyed holding, "it's going to be absolutely epic."

"WHAT." Tuesday's head turned so fast it should have made a sound. One eyebrow climbed to its maximum elevation. "He gets SPOILERS?! Oh, hell to the NAH." She gestured between herself and the general concept of fairness in the universe. "Where is the equity? Where is the justice? Am I not your best friend too, boo boo? Or am I just perpetually, cosmically second place?" A pause, perfectly timed. "...Is it because I'm Black?"

"WHOA—" Luca's hand shot up immediately. "Hold on. When did this become a race thing?!"

"Zip it, pretty boy," Tuesday said, one hand extending toward him in the universal gesture of absolute dismissal. "In today's day and age, the race card will always be a thing. Always."

"Bruh—" Luca started, the protest already forming —

And then it stopped.

Something shifted behind his eyes. The gears turned. The thought completed itself.

"...Huh." A long pause. "Okay, not gonna lie. You're kinda right." Another pause. "Which is actually really messed up and sad."

"Welcome to the conversation, baby," Tuesday said, patting the air beside her generously.

"Guys."

Foca's voice, quiet and even, cut through the room like a letter opener — clean, precise, completely effortless. He reached for the remote.

"The show's about to start."

The room recalibrated instantly. Conversations dropped. Bodies shifted. Every eye moved to the screen as Foca turned on the TV with the unhurried calm of a man who already knew exactly what was coming and had chosen to watch it anyway.

A breaking news banner flashed across the screen. Red. Bold. The kind of graphic that networks reserve for things that actually matter.

And then the anchor appeared — composed, professional, carrying the particular energy of someone delivering a story they knew was going to be replayed for years.

"Good evening. We interrupt your regular programming with a developing story of significant international magnitude."

"This evening, in a landmark joint operation, the FBI, the Customs and Border Protection, and the Department of Homeland Security successfully executed a high-profile coordinated arrest at JFK International Airport."

"Korean nationals Kang Ha-jun and his wife Kang So-ra — current owners of industry titan Hwarang Motors, a conglomerate whose reach spans transportation technology, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural infrastructure across multiple continents — were taken into federal custody immediately upon disembarking. Their youngest son, Kang Seo-yul, was apprehended separately, also at JFK, earlier this evening."

"Interpol issued a Red Notice on the Kang family approximately eighteen hours prior to their arrival on American soil — a notice sanctioned and co-signed by the United Nations and the International Court of Justice, granting immediate arrest authority upon the family's arrival in any signatory nation."

"The charges are extensive and span multiple jurisdictions. They include: multiple counts of international money laundering, large-scale tax evasion, RICO violations, systemic bribery of public officials across no fewer than seven countries, forced labor and slavery, torture, sex trafficking, kidnapping, and multiple counts of murder — committed across several nations over a period spanning more than two decades."

"Interpol's Red Notice extends to all remaining Kang family members, close relatives, and associates with direct ties to Hwarang Motors' upper infrastructure. Any individual named in the notice is subject to immediate arrest upon arrival on foreign soil."

"Per current international legal arrangements: the Kang family will face trial in the United States for all financial and RICO-related charges. They will additionally face a separate trial in France, under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, for all charges pertaining to crimes against humanity."

"Further details regarding the full scope of the investigation are expected to be released in subsequent briefings."

"This is Diana Heisenberg, reporting for USA News. We will continue to update this story as it develops. Good evening."

The broadcast cut to the network logo.

The room sat in the particular silence that follows something genuinely, historically enormous.

And Foca, still holding the remote, still wearing that smile —

Said nothing.

He didn't need to.
