The copper taste of blood lingers on my tongue, refusing to fade. Joshua's blood mixed with mine creates a bitter cocktail that makes my stomach churn. Something is wrong with his blood though. It carries an unfamiliar taint that sets my teeth on edge.
When his fangs pierced my shoulder, the world exploded into blinding white. Fury, bewilderment, and betrayal crashed through me like a tidal wave. Joshua is my beta. My sworn brother. The man who has stood beside me through every battle.
I threw him off, slamming his body to the ground while his jaws snapped wildly, seeking another bite. My guards burst through the doors, dragging him away as his eyes remained locked on mine. But those eyes belong to a stranger now.
This creature bears no resemblance to the boy who grew up at my side.
