Slow, she opened her eyes, a bit bleary, as she pulled her body up, heavy. Yawning and stretching her arms wide, her body aches as if she had been in an accident or something. Her long wavy hair are all messed up from a bad bed hair.
She stood up, lazing around, carrying her weight to the bathroom. She needs to get ready, it was almost time for her class. That once little lady is not so little anymore, as she needs to arrive at her university by 7. She passed by her mirror, only to be stunned by her own haggard appearance.
"Wow, damn. I look..."
"Horrendous." A deep voice cut her words as she jolted.
"Stop it, Malum. You can't just go appearing like that." Ene mumbled. It was obvious he had never cared for her words. Not ever since she breath her first life. Malum dissipated as mists again and went outside her room, to the balcony of her apartment.
It was his daily routine for the past years, first to jump scare her and then analyzing the delicious corruptions for his next destructions. Ene walks out her room yet still stretching slight.
"My body aches like crazy. I know I'm exaggerating it, but it felt like I got crushed by a building." Hearing her words, Malum feigned oblivious through his silence. She took her remote control and turned the television on.
The news played of last night calamitous event; a 10-story building had collapsed killing many. While those whom injured had not yet been informed of its amounts. Ene seat on the couch as she tilted her head slight, feeling a sense of deja vu.
"I... could have sworn I've been there before." She crossed her arms as she tried to recount it. Another woman appeared before her, her long hair covered her face as she sat close.
"Ene, didn't you went there last night? Have you forgotten?" The lady said soft. Malum gestured his hand as his black dusts shuts the television off.
"Don't you have to go to your 'university'?" His voice stern. Ene clasped both hand by his reminder.
"Oh, right, right. I'll get going now." Ene rushed to the bathroom. Malum, as instant, appeared before the lady and grabbed her by her throat, lifting her high, as she wriggled in pain.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't know she died again." Her voice restrained, clawing his hand for release. Malum's outlook was grim and his voice authoritarian.
"Shut your mouth or I'll make you stop talking all together." He threatened her, throwing her across the floor. The lady began to sobs pitifully as she hold her neck, a scorching pain felt from where he throttled her.
"I've only let you live because your filthy presence affects her state for the worse." He glared at the lady as she dissipates from the eyes view, wailing soft. Malum warped before the balcony once again, crossing his arms as he was deep in thought, yet remaining composed despite his troubled mind.
Why is it getting worse every single time? The corruption seeds I used to mend her body and fed her soul to is not affecting her whatsoever. This kid is... leaning to the light too much. It's nauseating. Yet, I can't let this vessel tainted with light, she belongs to my calamity. Why is she too different from the others? I need to investigate this.
As he was so deep in thought, Ene already finished getting ready. She noticed that he was yet again troubled by something.
He had been like that quite sometimes, I wonder what's wrong. The girl shrugged her shoulders and left the house. Walking down the hall, she felt a bit weird. Glancing back and forth, even if all looked too similar, she knew she was already stuck.
She walked back to the house only to go out again. Going down a stair, yet she's coming down from above instead, and the elevator had no button to press.
Malum sensed the disturbance as he wisped away as black mists to outside. Even on the same hall, he could see her going around and around, hidden from the human eyes, yet Ene couldn't see him. Despite being in two different world, both of them noticed the same entity.
Crawling, dragging its body across the hall, filling it with its flesh of mutilated 'bodies'. Uncountable legs and arms, it was missing its heads, its body twisted abnormally. The same foul stench filled her nose as she scrunched her face, hearing its words.
"Sweet... So sweet... Smell so sweet..." It kept echoing in her mind. Ene didn't understand by the term 'sweet' nor know what to do as of now. She knew there was something lingering around the halls of the apartment, but this was not what she had expected in mind.
It dragged its heavy body yet again, only to rip it off amidst friction across the floor. It didn't stop, instead, smearing its rotten flesh and drenching the floor with blood. Still dragging its heavy body across the hall to her by its arms. With no where to go, Ene was stuck, while Malum relished the exquisite distress of her expression.
Should I let her be swallowed by the demon instead? Although this one is a hassle and rotten to the taste.
He watched as the demon dragged itself closer to her, its 'mouth' is but its body slit opened, baring heads as teeth. A horrifying sight to see, each head had bleeding hollowed eyes. It's mouth outspread in an unnatural ways, eager to consume and shred her apart.
Ene backed to the edge, to Malum's anticipation. As the monstrous being was inches away from her, its bleeding tongues reached out to her. Ene ducks her head as she closed her eyes shut, diving her head tight against her knees, with a single utterance.
"Malum..."
His eyes widened slight, that call of his name felt different from what she had always did. In an instant, a flick of his hand, the abomination disintegrated as if burned by invisible fire. It wailed in pain. Screeching and roaring, to which Ene closed her eyes and ears tight against the ear-splitting death cry. After a while, the quietness settled to her bewilderment.
"What you're doing? Aren't you running late?" Ene's eyes fluttered open upon hearing his voice, meeting his ever so familiar cold gaze. Standing stern, near her was Malum. She looked around the halls, noticing the entity had disappeared, not a single speck of flesh and blood left.
She exasperated with relief as she stood straight once again, to proper herself. A sheepish smile on her lips as reddish hues settled on her cheeks, embarrassed to be seen by Malum in such state. She bowed to him then went passed him, heading for the elevator.
Upon the elevator's arrival, she turned to look at Malum once again, whom was as still fixated at her. She beamed soft, thanking him before the elevator's door shuts.
"Thank you, Malum." Waving her hand to him as goodbye too. It was a sight he was unable to discern. He frowned slight trying to make sense of what he had just witnessed.
"Did she just thank me? Me? Calamity?" He let out a half chuckled, a total disbelief. He warped nearby, as he watches her every move, heading for her 'class' he presumed. Ene was smiling again, much to his curiosity.
"This rohi is truly an enigma."
