-Then There Were Ten (Ben 10/WORM SI)-

-CHAPTER 2-

...

-Greg Veder POV-

-April 13th, 2011-

"Now who can tell me the answer to this problem?" Asks the math teacher as he looks around the classroom, only to stop at me as I raise my hand.

"Greg! Please share the answer." The teacher smiles because he notices that I've been taking more interest in my studies these past few days.

I stand up and nod. "X is 24, Y is 56. So Z should be 91."

He smiles. "Correct!" I smiled back as I sat back down.

If any other person was in my place, they would despise going to school because to them they have already gone once.

Now this was where my case differed. I hadn't gone to school in my past life. Having dropped out after middle school to work in the mines.

It had always been a small dream of mine to study and get a good degree. I had thought that I would do so after all my siblings have settled, I didn't know that I would get an opportunity this fast.

It had been three days since I woke up in this world, as a mob character no less. I have been trying to make sense of the memories of old Greg (there is disconnect between his memories and mine, while mine are full of emotions and feelings, his are lifeless as if I was just an observer) and also catching up on my studies.

I also got a haircut, so that's nice.

But my primary time was going into gathering parts and making blueprints for the Gift that I had been given after arriving into this world.

That is my power.Tinker Specialization: Omnitrix.

As a person who had watched the original and all the subsequent seasons of Ben 10 (up until Omniverse). I was very familiar with the device known as Omnitrix which let its user turn into any alien whose information and DNA was stored inside.

It was frankly absurd. When using the device to its fullest potential, Ben was basically God. Being able to stop the destruction of the Omniverse itself.

But even without the access to those aliens, what made the device so useful was the sheer versatility it provided.

Of course, such a power was not without its own shortcomings.

For one, my Specialization didn't include technology of the Ben 10 world. It only included Omnitrix.

So no spaceships, super suits, or other useful things. But who needed that when you had freaking blueprints to create the strongest

Another was that I could only make and maintain only one Omnitrix at a time. Which means no army of super shapeshifters. Though I wasn't going to do so anyways, I can't really trust anyone to be responsible enough for it.

Only I know it's true power and potential after all.

In exchange, I had access to the designs and the ability to make any type of Omnitrix.

Including an Omnitrix that can scan through dimensions.

Why was I focusing on this specific area? Well... Let me explain my reasoning...

Normally, an Omnitrix comes packaged with the DNA of a million aliens (even if you could only access 10 of them at the start)... But that was only when Azmuth made it as he had access to the DNA of practically every living thing in his universe.

Unfortunately, I didn't have access to the DNA of those aliens. So any Omnitrix I make would be empty until I scan an alien, which I can't do.

Why? Because the only alien in Worm is a shiny golden guy that would wipe me from the face of the earth if I tried anything on him.

How would i even protect myself from being killed by the Entity right after? The scanning was not an instantaneous thing. It would at the very least(with the peak and most advanced upgrades to the Omnitrix) take a few minutes to do so.

Minutes that I would not have... And there were no other aliens for me to scan and grow my powerset... Worm was a human-only setting aside from Zion after all.

Normally, I would be super screwed but i hope now you would understand my reasoning of focusing on scanning through the dimensions (The Ben 10 Omniverse is a big place so it is a guarantee that there will at least be one universe where the Omnitrix can scan through dimensions).

As I can make any type of Omnitrix, I'm trying to make one that would let me scan and record even the non-DNA based lifeforms (of course it wouldn't have the memory to store over a million DNAs but it would atleast have space for a hundred).

Basically I'm trying to make an Omnitrix that basically gives me infinite superpowers by scanning the Shards of others. Keyword being "try" as even I'm not sure that the resulting Omnitrix will follow what I want to make in the first place.

Tinker fugue is a real thing after all. As my sub consciousness takes over during the period of creation, I don't really have control over the end result of what I create. Only that the end result would atleast be similar to the one I was hoping for.

Of course gathering parts for this while also remaining anonymous is very hard. So it was also taking some time.

Because holy fuck! I had to make a nuclear reactor the size of a watch! And I would still have some power issues when it's finished!

God knows what Azmuth used to power the OG Omnitrix; I could only go for the nuclear option (since that one was the only one available to me).

Do you know how dangerous that was? I still don't understand how I made a nuclear reactor out of microwave parts…

Thankfully, Greg lived alone. As his parents had died long ago during Slaughterhouse 9's last visit to BB and his only relative, Grandma lived in a luxurious old person home with her rich "boyfriend" (who was in his 80s).

That's a problem in general with Tinker powers though. Most of the time we don't even understand our own tech, even if we can maintain it in pristine condition.

I was putting such efforts into making my own super watch that I even had to synthesize my own supermetal from other strong metals present on earth because every other existing element on earth was too weak.

At least, I was including the feature of making it an encrypted design so not even Dragon could recreate it.

Copy it? Yes if they were genius enough (Azmuth level) but recreate it? Impossible.

So honestly it was granted that it's taking time because of the necessity of so many extra features.

I sighed and got up from my table as the bell rang. I silently moved on glancing at the "Bitch Trio" and passing by a black haired glasses wearing girl, Taylor Hebert, the protagonist of this world.

If I wasn't so far into canon, I would've tried to help her but as it was already 13th April and she had already fought off Lung and joined the Undersiders, I know that any effort that made would only go to waste because of her paranoia and the slippery slope of Villainy that Tattletale was manipulating her into.

Unfortunately, I could not do anything for her... I was neither strong nor connected enough.

Though what would I even do? Not like she would trust me even if Greg was a… acquaintance. She has a severe trust issue after all; in the end it would be too troublesome to gain her trust. And I honestly didn't want to involve myself in her or any other's life.

My goal was to just deal with Scion for the time being. I didn't have time to involve myself in the life of the Queen of Escalation.

My existence has already changed this world. I could not fully rely on my future knowledge. The only thing I could take for granted right now was that Leviathan was going to be arriving in the very near future.

Fucking Eidolon!

Plus, I can't trust that Khepri could defeat Scion this time. There many reasons why but primarily it was because even in canon they were only able to defeat him due to sheer luck and with the changes I would inevitably make to the timeline... The future would only start become more and more blurry..

And since I haven't seen a certain fedora wearing woman, I could only guess that either she can't Path me, I'm not important enough, or not a danger, or I'm actually on the right track.

Which is a terrifying thought. I don't know which I would prefer.

Though that doesn't mean that I wouldn't change things. A small smirk graced my face as I thought about the surprise and anger that the snake must be feeling that all his carefully laid plans were ruined because of a simple anonymous message to a middle schooler that I had passed along.

Changes were inevitable. There was absolutely no way that I could stop the future from changing even if I wanted to as even the smallest changes would change the future I knew about.

If I remember correctly tomorrow would be the Bank robbery. At least it would've been if not for my small advice to an innocent little girl.

I wouldn't let an innocent person be kidnapped and drugged after all, especially when I knew about it and could stop it.

At least PRT would protect her, especially when she was related to the mayor.I thought as I looked at the "breaking news" that a new Ward, Delphi, had joined the Brockton Bay.

I should probably add an anti-Thinker and anti-Master feature to the watch too. Wouldn't want Tattletale to read me or some random Master to control me after all.
