Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2 — Shadows in the Classroom

The first day in Night Class was quieter than Lucas had expected. The room smelled of old wood and antiseptic, and the students sat perfectly still, their eyes tracking every movement. The purebloods' arrogance was tangible — a living aura that Lucas could almost touch.

Jack walked beside him, silent as ever, his gaze scanning the room like a predator assessing prey. Even in human form, the tension around him made weaker vampires fidget.

Lucas leaned slightly closer to Jack as they reached the front row.

"Notice how they're already judging each other," he whispered, a small smile playing on his lips.

Jack's gray eyes flicked to the students."They don't even know we're here yet. Stupidity is a dangerous thing."

Lucas chuckled softly."Exactly. Let's see which one digs their own grave first."

The First Test

Kaname Kuran entered the classroom with his usual elegance, gliding between rows of students. The Night Class bowed, heads low, eyes full of obedience — or fear.

One of the younger purebloods, a cocky boy with sharp features, leaned over to whisper to his friend.

"Did you see the new transfer students? They look… weak."

Lucas's head tilted slowly. He gave Jack a barely perceptible glance.

Jack's hand twitched. Just slightly. Enough to warn.

Lucas whispered, "Patience."

The boy smirked and continued, unaware that his arrogance had already been noted.

Observation and Subtle Influence

Throughout the lecture, Lucas's attention never wavered. He could sense the faint tremor of insecurity beneath the students' bravado. He subtly adjusted his aura, sending micro-signals of intimidation that made the overconfident boy second-guess every word.

Jack, meanwhile, remained a silent shadow at his side. His presence alone made students unconsciously step back, and a few glanced nervously toward the window, sensing something they couldn't name.

Lucas whispered again, barely moving his lips."Watch. He'll act first."

The boy's smirk faltered. In an instant, he knocked over his notes in a clumsy attempt to hide them — a small, perfect crack in the pureblood façade.

Jack's hand brushed Lucas's shoulder lightly. Not affectionate, but reassuring. Lucas smiled softly in return, feeling the familiar grounding force of his lover beside him.

Testing the Waters

After class, the two boys lingered in the empty hallway. Lucas allowed himself a small laugh.

"They think they control everything here," he said.Jack's gray eyes glinted faintly."Control is an illusion."

Suddenly, the arrogant boy from class reappeared, stepping into their path.

"Hey… you two," he sneered, "you think you're special?"

Lucas tilted his head, golden eyes meeting his."I'm only special enough to notice your flaws."

Jack's presence grew heavier, his aura brushing against the boy like a storm warning. The boy swallowed, realizing the danger too late.

Lucas gave a small, almost playful shrug."Test complete."

The boy stumbled backward, muttering excuses, and fled down the corridor.

Jack let out a quiet, amused chuckle, low and dangerous."You enjoy this far too much."

Lucas leaned close, his lips brushing Jack's ear."I enjoy watching arrogance break itself. You enjoy cleaning up the rest."

Jack's smile was subtle, but sharp — a predator's acknowledgment of their perfect balance.

Closing Observation

That night, Lucas and Jack returned to their dorms.

Lucas sat on the bed, removing the last trace of his human disguise."The purebloods are arrogant, yes, but their mistakes are consistent. We'll have more opportunities."

Jack perched on the window sill, wings half-visible in the moonlight."They'll cross us eventually. And when they do…"

Lucas reached for Jack's hand, fingers intertwining."…we'll be ready."

In that quiet dorm room, between shadows and moonlight, their bond was reaffirmed. Observation, patience, and lethal efficiency — and above all, trust.

Outside, Cross Academy continued its nightly rhythm, unaware that two predators walked its halls, studying its arrogance — and waiting for the moment to strike.
