Phoebe's POV
My words clearly caught Caiden off guard, and I could sense his discomfort growing. There was something almost fearful in his reaction.
That fear was directed at me.
I kept my expression light and friendly, maintaining an innocent smile that I knew would unnerve him.
From the way Caiden's face tightened, that smile was having exactly the effect I wanted.
Was his nervousness because Harold stood beside me?
But then again, without the Bailey family's backing, did Harold still carry the same weight as before?
If that were true, my warning would hold much less power.
I watched Caiden's expression shift as he seemed to convince himself of this logic, his momentary fear dissolving.
His glare hardened as he fixed his attention on me. "Phoebe, I'm addressing you as Mrs. Bailey purely out of courtesy to Harold.
You understand your position perfectly well, don't you?"
Caiden was essentially telling me not to overstep.
