The moment I finished talking, Buck, who'd been shaking his head on screen, suddenly went still.
"Hello? What's happening? The connection just went bad," he said.
I was speechless.
What a cheap old man, I thought.
"Seriously, quit the act," I snapped. "I set up the signal system on this island myself. When has it ever failed?
"You're worth millions as a miracle doctor. Stop being such a penny-pincher and transfer the money already!"
The video cut out immediately, leaving me no chance to convince him otherwise.
I stared at the blank screen, utterly defeated.
Maybe I should ditch this tight-fisted mentor, I mused.
Instead of calling back, I shot Brittany a message, asking if she'd been running her mouth to Buck again.
She went radio silent instantly.
These people were so ridiculous, I actually started laughing.
I was beyond words.
