Alan's eyes lit up immediately. "Deal. You gave your word.
When I turn Clearwater upside down and the old man comes after me swinging his walking stick, you'd better jump in and hold him off."
I didn't hesitate. "Absolutely."
The three of us stood and headed for the door.

Chad's office was crammed wall-to-wall with agitated people.
"Mr. Calvin, when something this catastrophic happens at your institution, don't you think you owe the students and families some answers?"
A parent representative stepped forward, voice sharp with accusation. "We enrolled our kids at Clearwater University expecting them to flourish in a secure setting. Now we can't even guarantee their basic physical safety? How are we supposed to have any faith in this place?"
The other parents erupted in agreement. "Absolutely! Mr. Calvin, we demand a reasonable explanation. We refuse to let our children share space with a cold-blooded killer!"
"That's right! What if Phoebe strikes again?"
