Phoebe's POV
Since I'd already said yes to the movies with Harold tonight, when he asked me to dinner too, I didn't think twice about it.
Living in Heather with my unique situation meant I always kept things understated and relaxed. My go-to look was plaid shirts paired with jeans.
Tonight, I stuck with my usual shirt-and-jeans combo when I met up with Harold.
But I'd switched out the plaid for a crisp white shirt and swapped my regular hair tie for something nicer.
And for the first time, I put on a pair of diamond earrings.
The changes were subtle, but they made a difference.
Harold picked up on it right away.
His eyes sparked with something warmer, and he smiled as he pulled the car door open for me. "You look stunning tonight, Phoebe."
I met his gaze without flinching.
"Thanks.
You clean up pretty well yourself."
He'd ditched the formal suits tonight, and those scholarly gold-rimmed glasses were nowhere to be seen.
