Veronica's POV
I changed into fresh clothes with Daniel, and we walked out of the Nelson mansion together.
When we reached a quieter spot, Daniel looked up at me with worried eyes. "Mom, please don't be sad. Daddy's awful, but Harvey is amazing! Maybe he could be our new stepdad?"
I shook my head firmly, brushing away the thought. "Don't worry about me, honey. I don't need any man—having you two is more than enough."
Love and romance felt pointless to me now. I'd stopped believing in either a long time ago, especially when it came to men.
Daniel and I headed toward the Nelson Family's main hall, where we bumped into Camila, who'd just gotten back. Her car's trunk was stuffed with carefully chosen presents.
"All set! Time to go!" Camila called out enthusiastically.
Hanna appeared with Cecile, while Whitney showed up with Kathrine. Their injuries seemed mostly healed, but I caught the bitter looks they shot my way—a mix of fury and spite.
