Inside the Nelson estate's living room, Cecile kept checking the entrance, her fingers drumming against her chair.
"Veronica's still not back. Has anyone heard anything from her?"
Hanna shook her head. "I ran into Veronica this morning and suggested she visit the Grays, but who knows if she listened."
Norma snorted. "Maybe it's time someone knocked Veronica down a peg. Winnie might be exactly what she needs to learn some respect."
Cecile's face hardened at the comment.
Before she could respond, Camila cut in sharply.
"What's wrong with you, Norma? Veronica was defending Joseph! Even if she stirred up trouble, I'd back her completely. She's the best thing that happened to that boy - treats him like her own flesh and blood, unlike certain people who only look out for their biological kids."
The barb hit Hanna directly. Fuming but unable to retaliate, Hanna shot a meaningful look at her husband Clark.
Clark cleared his throat. "That's enough bickering."
