Chapter 75: Mind Library

"This is the one, right?" Harry asked while floating several hundred feet in the air, looking down at the pyramids of Egypt.

"The Great Pyramid of Giza, that is the one," V said. "The tomb we are looking for should be hidden beneath that structure."

"I have explored these pyramids before, but never found any magical tomb. I remember being very disappointed," Harry commented.

"Don't beat yourself up about it. They are always very well hidden to prevent any Muggles from accidentally finding them. I bet you have missed many more of those. Just follow the instructions that Lady Rose gave you," the hat said.

Harry had memorized the contents of the note, so it would not be a problem. "There are a lot of Muggles down there. How do you suggest we do this?"

"It is a tourist attraction, after all. Make yourself invisible and move to the north side. The main entrance to the tunnels is there," V said.

"Got it." He applied several layers of charms over his body before flying inside the pyramid.

The tunnels were long and narrow, and also far from empty.

"Tsk!" Harry had to squeeze in between the line of tourists visiting the pyramid.

Soon enough, he found himself at a crossroads. One corridor went to the right, and another one kept going forward.

'She didn't say anything about this part of the pyramid,' Harry thought.

'We need to reach the tomb at the bottom level. The secret entrance should be there,' V responded.

'Mmm… hold on, let me check.' Harry closed his eyes and accessed the full memories from his previous visit to this place, in which he had supposedly explored every nook and cranny.

Inside his mind's library were countless books. Each one contained a separate set of memories. Everything was properly organized for quick access.

Memories from people, places, and magical skills… they were all in different sections, and each section had many levels.

There were over a billion bookshelves in here, and the size of the entire library could almost be compared to the size of a metropolis like London.

There were over thirty thousand years' worth of memories in here… mostly.

The space, although massive, was not infinite. The mind has limits, and occasionally, to store more memories, Harry had to come here and erase a few books, or even entire shelves, to make more room.

If anyone were to enter his mind, they would inevitably become lost in this labyrinth of chambers, stairs, and corridors.

The only one who knew its way around was Harry.

"Let's see…" He grabbed a yellow book from the shelf. "Yes, this one…" Memories from his previous visit to Giza entered his frontal lobe, giving him all the knowledge he needed.

In the real world, Harry opened his eyes after he had them closed for just a couple of seconds. "I know the way." He rushed into the corridor ahead of him.

He unlocked a metal gate with a sign warning tourists against entering this part of the pyramid and continued forward.

The corridors soon began to descend, and after five more minutes of running, he arrived at the main burial chamber.

"Lumos." Harry looked around. "This should be the one."

"Examine the walls. Look for anything unusual," V said.

"Mmm…" Harry ignored the sarcophagus in the middle and touched the walls of the chamber with the palm of his hands, trying to feel any magical signature.

A secret entrance should have some kind of trigger that would open the door.

Most secret tombs were designed to be accessed at a later date, either for maintenance or to bury someone else in the future.

"Do you know something about this Amenhotep? This is supposed to be his resting place, right?" Harry asked.

"I'm afraid not. Ancient Egypt was home to many powerful magic users, but that name doesn't ring a bell," V commented. "However… if he was buried beneath the main pyramid…"

"He must have been very important," said Harry.

"Indeed. It also means that his tomb will be extremely well protected."

"Yes, that one I can already imagine. Lady Rose would not have sent us here otherwise." The materials he was exchanging for this trip were a lot more costly than hiring your average Curse Breaker.

"There, a bit more to the left!" V exclaimed.

Harry narrowed his eyes. "Yes… I can feel it too. There is some kind of mark on that stone."

"Check for curses first," V warned him.

Harry took a step back and focused his attention on one particular part of the wall.

This stone looked the same as the rest, but Harry could feel that someone had placed an enchantment on it.

He made a gesture with his hand while channeling his magic through his brands.

Translucent filaments formed from the tips of his fingers and touched the stone.

This one immediately reacted, showing a dozen glowing symbols on its surface.

A second after that, an eerie purple smoke began to filter out from the stone's porous surface.

"Nasty curse. That is a flesh-dissolving one, I believe," V commented.

"If anyone else tried this before me, there would be nothing left of them. Good choice of curse, but not enough to stop me." Harry pulled his hand backward, and the translucent strings became tense.

The symbols started to pulse like a heartbeat, and a loud clicking noise was then heard.

"Done!" said Harry as the stone moved aside, revealing a set of descending stairs.

He used his other hand to clean away the air and remove the cursed purple smoke before making his way inside.

"Well… here we go. Keep your eyes open. I bet we will find many more of those traps inside."
