Chapter 15: Just The Beginning

"No…this can't be!" Voldemort exclaimed as he quickly realized that the connection he had been using for the entire year to spy on Harry was no longer there.

Harry had felt the attempt at a mental probe and realized what Voldemort tried to do.

At this point, he had a better understanding of the connection they shared than the other person involved.

"Harry…" The hat spoke to him in a grave tone.

"I know." Harry clenched the wand with such force that the wood could be heard cracking.

Right now, he wanted nothing more than to teach this evil man a lesson, but this was not the time to show his hand.

Not when he knew he couldn't finish the job, as Voldemort was still protected by his Horcruxes.

"Tom!"

Luckily for Harry, he saw Dumbledore approaching quickly, and the old man looked extremely furious.

"Harry!" The Headmaster immediately got in front of him in order to protect him. "Are you okay?"

Harry could see the genuine concern in his eyes and felt happy for it. "I'm fine, Professor."

Dumbledore's eyes lingered on Harry for a bit longer, as if he had sensed that something was very different about the boy, but he could not get distracted now, not when the Dark Lord was so close.

Voldemort's face clearly showed his displeasure. Now that Dumbledore was in his way, he wouldn't be able to acquire the Prophecy. And if that wasn't enough, he had somehow lost the connection with Harry, meaning that he could no longer manipulate the naive boy into another trap.

Bella was in no condition to fight. Her leg was bleeding profusely, and her face had become extremely pale. The woman appeared to be ready to pass out.

"Tom, it's over! The Auror Department is on its way. You can't escape." Dumbledore took a step forward, ready for a fight.

Voldemort could tell that the Headmaster was not bluffing. His sharp senses were already warning him of a large group approaching.

"It's not over until I say it's over!" The Dark Lord grabbed hold of Bella and transformed them both into shadowy figures that quickly flew through the air.

"No!" Dumbledore shouted while sending several spells at them.

Unfortunately, the shadows were too fast and they all missed the target.

On the way to the exit, Voldemort came across Minister Fudge and a squad of aurors who were responding to the emergency call sent by Dumbledore.

"Ahhh!" Fudge almost fell on his butt when he saw the shadowy creature.

The aurors tried to stop them but, just like what happened to Dumbledore, the spells were unable to hit such a fast target. And just like that, the Dark Lord flew through the elevator hole towards the exit.

"This can't be…" Fudge had become incredibly pale. It was just for a second, but while the shadow was passing by his side, he saw its face.

"Minister! Are you hurt?" Several aurors came to check on him, but the Minister was too spooked to respond to them.

"It was him!" he exclaimed instead, terror showing in his eyes.

Meanwhile, a bit further into the corridor, Dumbledore knelt down next to Sirius.

"He is alive," said Harry. "Just unconscious, but…" He noted that the group of aurors had stopped after their encounter with Voldemort, but it wouldn't take long before they came here.

"Yes, we cannot let them see your Godfather," Dumbledore said.

Sirius was still considered a fugitive, and Minister Fudge had a particular dislike for him. If they saw him here, even Dumbledore wouldn't be able to make them listen to reason.

"I can take him to a safe location," said Harry.

"Harry, that would be difficult." Dumbledore glanced towards the aurors. "The elevators and the fireplaces are the only way out of here, and you would need to get past them to reach either."

He failed to mention that apparition or portkeys could not be used inside the Ministry of Magic, save for a few specific locations. This was because he didn't think that Harry had access to either of those methods.

Harry didn't bother with explanations. There was no time for that.

He moved the wand in a circular motion while focusing on channeling a large amount of his magic.

Due to the poor efficiency of the focus he was currently using, Harry would have to put a lot of extra effort on his part. But even with subpar tools, he was confident in forming this piece of magic.

After all, this was one of his own creations.

"Gate."

As the single word left his lips, a dark circle appeared from thin air and hovered just a few inches off the floor.

"What is that?" Dumbledore stared at the solid circle with pure shock.

It was not easy to surprise the Headmaster, as he had more or less seen every bit of magic that this world had to offer. But what Harry just did was something completely new for him.

Before he could ask any questions about it, Harry grabbed Sirius by his robes and tossed him into the circle he had just created.

The body of Sirius disappeared completely after crossing the strange magical phenomenon, and a second after that, Harry made another gesture with the wand, dispelling the magical gate.

It had only taken a moment, and Sirius was now gone.

"What did you do?" was the first thing that Dumbledore thought about saying.

"I sent him to a safe place," said Harry, turning his attention to the approaching group of people.

The hallway was badly illuminated, and they were still some distance away, so he was counting on the strong possibility that they didn't see what he had just done.

"A safe place? But…" Dumbledore was sure that teleportation magic was not possible from this place. If what Harry just said was true, then he had found a way to bypass the Ministry's ancient protections.

"A cave near Hogwarts," Harry said. "Leave the questions for later."

"Ehm… yes." Dumbledore gave Harry a suspicious glance. His first impression when looking at the boy had been a correct one.

Something strange had happened to Harry.
