"It is a power of the soul, separate from our bloodline—the one I used while fighting Chiyo. My moving technique is part of this power. It also allows me to share my very essence with others to awaken this power inside them."
"What's the catch, Ren?" Satoshi asked.
"The cost is high," Ren admitted. "I am going to give a fragment of my soul to both of you. Once I release these fragments, I will fall into a deep, forced sleep while my spirit fills the gap itself. I don't know how long I'll be out—months, or even years."
"If separating these fragments is this dangerous, then why are you giving one to me? I am perfectly fine," Satoshi asked.
Ren said, "This space is linked to me. I provide it energy to keep it stable and functional. This space cannot be powered by chakra; it is powered by Reishi, which I absorb from the atmosphere and feed to the Shadow Realm. It can't draw Reishi from the atmosphere on its own. Mom will also take time to heal; she won't wake up immediately. You will be the only one left awake. Once you have it, you will be able to keep this space stable and functional even if I am not awake."
Satoshi hesitated, looking at his son's determined face. He realized Ren had already made the decision. He nodded.
Ren knelt between his parents. He closed his eyes and focused on the violet orb in his heart. Ren reached into his own chest, his fingers glowing with azure light. With a sudden, guttural growl of agony, he separated two fragments from his soul.
The sensation was absolute; it felt as if a part of his consciousness was being ripped away. Two pulsating shards of light hovered in the air. He didn't hesitate. He thrust the first fragment into Kaori's chest and the second fragment into Satoshi's chest.
Satoshi gasped as the influx of power hit him. Instantly, he felt a tether snap into place. The Shadow Realm was no longer a foreign space; it was an extension of his own will. Ren's vision began to blur as his body began to shut down. His eyes rolled back and he collapsed. Satoshi caught him, laying his son gently beside his wife. The silence of the Shadow Realm became absolute, leaving Satoshi alone, waiting for his family to return from the dark.
