"If only you had known your place and not defied me in the first place," Kael said coolly. "Things wouldn't have ended like this."
"I… regret nothing, My King," Garou replied. "I only wished to protect you from being controlled by a witch. You are the king I worship, and I want it to stay that way."
Garou was looking at Kael with eyes full of reverence, then continued, "If possible, may I ask one final thing?"
"Speak," Kael ordered.
"Please bury me within the palace grounds," Garou said humbly. "Anywhere will do. There is no need for a tombstone. I only wish for my soul to guard this palace after death."
It was a modest request from a young man who could have achieved so much more.
Kael felt an unexpected discomfort settle in his chest.
This wasn't the show he had intended. He wanted Garou's death to be humiliating, so it could be an example that would instill fear and obedience among the crowd.
