Sisi knew Jojo must have been hurt by her silence.
It was probably the first time Jojo had ever been saddened by something she said— or in this instance, something she did not say, and the realization hurt Sisi just as deeply.
She searched for a way to comfort him. After finishing the applying the soothing balm on his back, Sisi said softly, "I still love you very much, Jojo. You're the only reason I'm here, you know?"
She thought he would smile again.
But he didn't.
Jojo only nodded weakly and kept his mouth shut.
All Sisi could do was sigh. She checked on Kael, then waited for him to wake up while the cave sank into a deafening silence.
Kael was trapped in a long, relentless nightmare.
He was fighting his own curse, only to witness his fated mate die before his eyes—taken by the Dusk Star curse while wearing his body. The last thing he could hear was his fated mate's scream and the curse's maniacal laugh.
It was horrendous
