Chapter 58 - CHAPTER (CONTI Whispers in Marble Halls...Greek Village: Forbidden Archives Night Raid

Night in Olympus District was too quiet. The marble courtyards slept under silver moonlight, and the wind hung still like the world was holding its breath. Perfect—because tonight wasn't about training or blending in. Tonight was extraction.

Kairo and Selene moved like ink through shadow, clothes black, sandals wrapped, aura sealed to a needle thread. Even the guards felt like ghosts. Every corner they passed hummed with danger, yet Kairo had a grin tugging his lips—reckless, unfitting, but signature him. Selene whispered once, "Focus," and he only nodded, playful eyes disappearing behind seriousness like a blade sheathing into steel.

Ahead was the Archive Temple—ancient, gold-framed, guarded by spears that hummed with Zeus-lightning. No one touched those doors without authority. Good thing authority wasn't something Kairo relied on.

They perched above a column, observing routes. Below, paladins patrolled: shields embossed with eagles, sandals thudding rhythm. Selene timed her breath with theirs. When the last guard turned, she dropped silently and slit her palm across the moon-engraved talisman. A white pulse—gentle, silent. Light swallowed them like fog. Illusion veil. They walked invisible between gods.

Inside, scroll towers rose like pillars to the sky. Endless knowledge: lineage, forbidden relics, war records. Somewhere in that sea of parchment lay what Sensei wanted—proof of clan hierarchy, political tension, prodigy files, weaknesses. But for Kairo, there was another page. One he never said aloud.

Selene went left. Kairo right. She trusted the division because infiltration demanded trust. But shadows answered him differently.

He whispered, "Scope," and his right eye burned. Aether spiraled, vision sharpened to threads of energy. Every scroll glowed with different weight—most warm, mundane. But two burned like storms caged in paper. His pulse stuttered.

Only one matched his signature. Lightning coiled faintly around it like a sleeping god. The other pulsed jet-black—cold, suffocating. Underworld.

He swallowed. Everyone said he was just a shadow wielder. But he felt it—Hades stirring beneath his skin. The scroll called to him like blood memory.

He shouldn't. But he reached.

Fingers grazed the Underworld scroll—and chains of aether exploded out, spectral hands grabbing his wrist. Warning. Seal. A test.

Kairo's pupils thinned like a predator. With his free hand, he pressed lightning under his skin—not external, not visible, just enough spark to burn the seal internally. No flash. No sound. Shadow swallowed it whole.

Chains snapped like bones crushed under weight.

He pulled both scrolls free, fast. Heart racing. One for Sensei's mission, one for himself. Selene must never know—not yet. If she did, her eyes would change. He didn't know why that terrified him.

He hid the Underworld scroll inside his cloak lining and moved.

Selene returned with three scrolls in her arms, breath steady but eyes sharp. "Got them. Did you?" she asked.

Kairo held up only the lightning records—the safe one. "Easy peasy. Let's go."

Her eyes narrowed—she sensed something. But trust won.

They escaped just as early priests stepped onto the marble. One turned, confused by the whisper of air. But the duo had already vanished over rooftops, silhouettes flying like myth.

Morning broke with chaos.

Scroll theft. High alert. Prodigies questioned. The whole village snarled like hounds scenting intruders. Lysandros stormed through the academy halls, spear glowing with suspicion. He stared at Kairo too long—something about him never felt normal.

But Kairo just yawned dramatically, headband tilted, looking like a boy who never knew stress existed. "Man, they look pissed. Who got robbed?" he muttered loud enough to pass as clueless.

Selene elbowed him. "Act less obvious."

He smirked. "I'm acting perfectly obvious about not knowing anything."

Despite pressure, they slipped through suspicion. Their cover held.

Night came again, and the main gang gathered secretly in an abandoned bathhouse. Torches crackled low. Everyone arrived in pairs—Reina and Kasai looking exhausted, Kaito and Halen bruised from sparring with a Norse enforcer, Ayo carrying Lyssa after a close encounter with a Yoruba shrine guardian. They each placed stolen scrolls on stone.

And then came the single wielders.

Ruel entered first—hooded, cautious eyes darting. Behind him Lani, then Isha, Damis, Dagon. Not part of the core gang, but the ones meant to channel information upward. Their job wasn't battle—it was communication. They would carry intel to Sensei without suspicion. They were the messengers between infiltrators and the mastermind.

Selene stepped forward. "We completed phase three. Greek hierarchy mapped. Zeus line holds dominance but Apollo's scholars grow restless. A war for inheritance is brewing."

Reina added softly, "Japan's prodigies are stronger than registered. One swordsman awakened flame without ritual. Dangerous."

Ayo's voice lowered, steady, "Yoruba village hides artifacts of primordial power. Even gods fear the Osun river chamber."

Scrolls exchanged hands like secrets wrapped in destiny.

Dagon whispered, "We'll deliver everything to Sensei. No trace."

But Kairo's hand remained tight on his cloak, thumb unconsciously resting where his hidden scroll lay. While the others handed knowledge meant for war, he held something meant for identity.

Underworld. Blood. Truth.

Selene glanced at him a second too long.

He avoided her gaze, smiling lazily. "Mission complete. Easy."

Nobody saw the tension behind that grin.

Outside, thunder rolled though skies were clear. Malrukh, somewhere far beyond the villages, felt the disturbance like a whisper of rebellion. The board was shifting.

And Kairo had stolen a piece meant to rewrite the entire game.
